Hi! I'm back with number 3 of our Suminagashi sessions series. You get to see more of my creative process in this video. I hope you enjoy it & feel relaxed. 😌
Suminagashi (墨流し), often translated to "floating ink," is the ancient Japanese technique of marbling. For me, it is art therapy.
🤍 MATERIALS
brushes: yasutomo all-purpose brush
ink: yasutomo black sumi ink
paper: yasutomo pad of hosho paper (6H)

Hello) what ink do you use?) What if you use thicker paper?)

I use a brand called Yasutomo. It's their black sumi ink. I've used regular printer paper and it works pretty well but the colors aren't as vibrant. I tried a brown sketch paper once and the ink slid right off. I haven't used anything super thick. The most important thing is to use unsized paper-the paper hasn't been treated to resist water absorption so the ink can spread freely on the surface.

This is so fascinating, I love art forms that are organic/ use the properties of the medium to make marks !

Same! It's so interesting and requires only a few materials. You just need a little intentionality and patience to create something beautiful and natural.

Hi. This is beautiful! What kind of ink is that? Can I use any kind of ink?

I use black sumi ink from a brand called Yasutomo. I find it works best when transferring the final design to paper. Some people like to use "India ink" since it's a bit easier to find.

Cute! I was wondering: if you cut a shape specifically of a size of a pot, how would it look and what appliance would you use to put it in and out? )

You could use a technique called "hydro dipping" to dye something the size of a pot. I have a larger tray I use for bigger pieces of art.
