Thank you so much for these well researched and high quality videos! Also the choice of music adds so much to the experience! We need more channels like this! I'm 64 now, and as a Boy Scout, summer camp helped shape me for adulthood. I found my old "swim tag" the other day. I'd forgotten I had it! It brought back so many memories!

Yes these videos are so enjoyable! (The one thing I’d say that is missing on this one video is, although the creator did an excellent job mentioning the different groups who had their camps, one group was left out in a big way and that was Jewish summer camps. “Sleep-away” summer camp in that time was a biggggggg thing in Jewish culture and it shaped alot of the childhood of people we see and hear from today. I was really looking forward to hearing and learning more about that.) Most importantly though, again..., great job with this channel. I’m so pleased and learn so much. Thank you

Back when there bugs. Remember taking a long, family road trip (for us it was 8hrs to see our extended family in Virginia) and you stopped to get gas and there were bugs all over the windshield? No bugs now. We’ve destroyed them. Yes .. the memories of nature

I only got to go to summer camp once when a local church came up with a program for low income families. It was only a one-week camp but it was still so much fun. At least for a lot of those years we lived in the country so there was always something to get into 😉😉

Went to summer camp once with my church group when I was around 9. Was my first time being away from home for that long but had a great time! I still remember the bonfires, swimming every day, crafts, and hiking! Wish I had gone to camp more when I was older.

Thank you for bringing back some good memories! I started attending summer sleepaway camp when I was nine until I was 14. With the exception of one year, when I was 12 and my brother was 9. It was his turn to go to sleepaway camp. He had been in a boys sports day camp for two years but his friends weren't returning that year. Well, my brother refused to go to sleepaway camp so my parents found another day camp for him. I was shocked because I hadn't realized that I could have refused lol. Even though I enjoyed going and made several new friends, I wished I had known that I had had a choice. It was decided that I would go with my brother so he wouldn't be alone. He definitely suffered from the coddling from Mom 😂. Funny, because the only time we were together was on the bus even though we sat with our friends and not with each other lol. We were in different age groups and different "focus" areas. The next year, it was back to sleepaway camp for me. My brother continued at the day camp for several more years. I loved doing so many things that we didn't get to do during the school year. Sure, we had art classes in school but, at camp, we did several multi-day projects. Ceramics were my favorite. Lots of swimming lessons. Archery, soccer, hiking, campfires, canoeing, kayaking and so many others. And, a whole new set of friends even in my last year when my friends from the neighborhood came with me. Lots of great fun!

I went to summer camp when I was 10 it was 2 weeks and my first time being away from my family. Parents were allowed to visit after the 1st week. I remember a mud slide, camp fires swimming and hiking. It was one of those experiences you never forget. When I returned from camp my parents gave me a new Polaroid swinger camera as a gift.

I liked the leathercraft classes, making belts and wallets and stitching them up. The Southern Baptist Convention bought and built these places with church funds. In addition to swimming, sports, and all the other activities mentioned here, we also got to listen to the older guys read the Bible to us and pray with us.

I went to Girl Scout Camp Sherwood in Lapeer, Michigan with my troop and as a summer camper. I returned for Counselor-In-Training. Our CIT campsite was in the middle of an old pine forest and the smell of pine filled the air. Sometimes, I'd lay my sleeping bag directly on the forest floor - the pine needles provided a perfect mattress and the stars twinkled overhead. Lovely!

I was in 4-H and attended 4-H summer camp twice in the 70s at Oglebay Park in Wheeling, WV, only 5 miles from home :) They had bunk houses and a large dining hall. Once with the younger group and once when older. We did swimming, hiking, and game activities, team challenges, and evening camp fires. Fun times with lots of friends.

When I was a Child, I went to both Day Camp and as an older Child, I went to over night camp:)!! The Day Camp activities I liked the best were swimming, playing board games, arts and crafts, and the Doll Contest that no one would win, except my Friend whose Mom had a Water Ice Truck:)!! I entered my Mom's old Bride Doll from the 50s and even entered my Madame Alexander Doll, but again only my Friend whose Mom had the Water Ice Truck would win, despite which Doll any of us entered:)!! Us Day Campers always enjoyed the Lemon Water Ice, which was better than Rita's:)!! At Overnight Camp, I so LOVED learning to row a Canoe in the Creek, arts and crafts, swimming, and when we slept outside toasting marshmallows:)!! At overnight camp with every meal we would sing, "Oh, the Lord is good to me; and so I thank the Lord for giving me the things I need, the sun and the rain, and the apple seed, the Lord is good to me.":)!! And at overnight Camp I even painted our plague for our Bunk, but I did not do a very good job. Sadly, my overnight camp is now a set of Condominiums, but the good memories are always there and I made some friends:)!! I wish someone could have mailed me the badly painted plague for our Bunk, just for the nostalgia:)!! However, I did get home sick at Overnight Camp and I was happy to arrive home appreciating family even more:)!!!

I guess you could consider a church bike/camping trip as a summer camp. I was an adult chaperone that trip and helped the teenage kids with their bikes. We did much on the Greenbriar Trail in southern WV, tent camping each night. One couple moved our stuff place to place and had dinners ready on our arrival!

I went to summer camp but it was a sports camp. For 2 summers in 1973-74 I went to a hockey camp in Canada. Our coaches were current and former NHL players. We stayed in dorms of a small college. One of the kids I knew from there went on to play in the NHL for many years. The only activity I didn't like was boxing class, I almost got knocked out! It. was a great experience though!

Ahhhhhh.....Camp Williams in Roosevelt park. ......2 consecutive weeks a year in the summer, 5 days a week.Did that for 3 summers...I HATED IT...I could of been home sleeping, but nooo, I had to get the bus everyday at 7 in the morning then the same thing comming back at 4 in the afternoon, and that dreadful 90 minute bus ride each way. All we got was 2 pints of milk a day and we had to bring our own lunch. But I'll tell you what, it's great memories. I learned how to play poker there with my camp counselors at lunch time. ...lolololol

Agreed, I had a great time for a week each summer at our Boy Scout camp near Yosemite. As for practical jokes, one time while we were off doing some activity, our scoutmaster found an old dried out bear turd. He put a little water on it to freshen it up and placed it next to one of the tents. We spent the rest of the day and evening finding tree branches that we could fashion into bear clubs in case it came back. He told us that it was a joke the next day. I also caught my first fish there. The state fish hatchery had just stocked the river with rainbow trout (I carried a bucket or two to the river). After the truck left, I found one of the trout along the bank that seemed stunned. I didn't have any gear, but I thought like a bear and managed to swat it up onto the bank with my paws. It made for a tastier dinner than the camp kitchen was providing.

I went to Camp Shaver in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico as part of an underprivileged kids program, during an overnight hike the counselors had to intervene in the tents because the older kids, 15,16, were sexually assaulting the younger kids 8,9, I crawled out and sat down by the fire, when asked why I wasn't asleep..... I never fit in, I wasn't good at sports, the crafts required purchasing the kits, I had no extra money, so the week was pretty much Not A Good Time. I don't like summer camp.
