It turns out that trying to get back into the swing of things after being gone for a week is quite difficult. I show some realistic and honest days in my life as I try to make some dissertation progress and also work on job market materials (my positionality statement!) and publication opportunities. I also chat about the excellent book I read this week--remarkably bright creatures!

Although it was a rough week for you, I found myself smiling through most of this video because it was so relatable! I know exactly how you feel when you just don't have the motivation to open the dissertation document, and you're finding every excuse/ distraction not to. Multidisciplinary work is so hard because it’s impossible to categorize yourself. But it’s basically impossible to not be multidisciplinary at this point, so I think we will be seeing a shift away from such black and white categorization of work in the near future. You’re just on the front end of that wave.

Loved the video! I joined a summer writing group thinking it would help me stay motivated working on a conference paper.....it has not helped. 😂 Sometimes taking a break from the work is a part of the process, because it lets your mind have a chance to recharge.

Doing a PhD is really tough. I suffered from procrastination many times throughout my own PhD journey which was over 10 years ago. Please cut her (and others) some slack.
