HGV Dash Cam Footage

6 жыл бұрын

It's been a while since we did a compilation. This is due to myself taking ill which diverted my time elsewhere. I know some of you have missed these compilations so, we have put together some videos which came in during July, August and September.
There was a slow down of new material coming in as we haven't really been active but please keep sending your videos in to us.
Credits given were asked for in the top right of the clip.

Go drive in Perth, Australia... they sit in the far right lane dead on the speed limit 100kph and will not move left. Until it's time for their exit of course. Sometimes its the same when entering the motorway except they make sure to enter 20kph less than the traffic.

if this video was recorded in Russia most of the near misses would have been serious crashes. some bad overtakes and pullouts if I was on a heavy good vehicle I would not even bother to brake just wipe the idiots off the road because they deserve it. I've been driving over 50 years and driving today is at its worse in terms of how they drive. thing is never let yourself get into a sticky situation to start with. plan ahead as you go is key to safe driving. police here need to do as they do in the USA. bad driving there gets an instant ticket and rightly so.

Hey can you tell me whats the "Free recovery" sign at 4:45 mean? Is it like a free tow service if you break down?
@gwishart
@gwishart 5 жыл бұрын
Yes. It's usually only in place on bridges or tunnels; or (in this case) where roadworks mean there is no hard shoulder for broken-down vehicles to wait for recovery without completely blocking the road. The roadworkers have a recovery vehicle on standby to tow the vehicle out of the roadworks and then leave you in a safe location - after that you're on your own.

haha, the cow reminded me of where I used to live back in the seventies. There was a farm down the road on a S bend, and every afternoon about 3 you had to go careful because the cows would leave the field, walk along the road for about three hundred yards, into the farmyard and wait in line for the milking parlour. When the deed was done, they'd walk back along the road and into the field. When the farmer had finished cleaning the parlour, he'd go and shut the gate to the field. People would come around the first corner, having ignored the hand painted 'cows on road' sign and get a surprise. all the locals knew. Couldn't do that today.

I use this roundabout regularly and there's nothing wrong with it as long as people know where they are going, follow the markings in the lanes, and let the dotted guidance lines filter them across at the right times. What happened here if you watch again is, the dickhead in the "Jaaaaag" didn't know where the fuck he was going and changed lanes to the RIGHT from lane 2 into lane 3 (at about 00:27) by not following the lane filter markings. Then at the last second decided he wanted to exit and literally cut across 2 other lanes without any warning. This guy is the definition of an idiot Jag driver with no idea how to drive or how to even follow very clear lane markings when going around a large roundabout. At worst case if anyone finds themselves in this situation, the best bet is to simply go around the roundabout again since you missed your exit already then come off in the correct lane the next go around. But people are too stupid and too impatient, so they think it's better to save a few seconds, putting everyone's life in danger by pulling some retarded lane-cutting move.

That wasn't too fast, it was normal road speed. Going too slow can be just as hazardous as going too fast. If we slowed down to a speed that allowed us to be able to full stop on every corner, it would add DAYS to some trips that are in busier areas. The road laws are there to allow traffic to flow smoothly, we have to trust that others obey them. Sometimes they don't.
@danielhomant2832
@danielhomant2832 5 жыл бұрын
The road was wet and on a corner, there was nothing he could have done to avoid the collision. Turning sharper was not an option due to lack of space on the roadway since there is a large trailer behind him, and turning sharper would have dragged the trailer off the road and into the trees resulting in damage. Turning sharper could have also resulted in the tires sliding and only making the collision far worse. Braking would could have had the same effect, tires cut loose and loss of control, resulting in sliding into oncoming traffic. Unavoidable.

I guess this shows more than anything, when people on the road upset you, part of the blame might be on yourself. Many clips by of a confrontational driver: 2:17 still on the gas when seeing merging traffic ahead (yes they are merging, but don't be a dick) 3:36 not clearly choosing a lane and getting upset when highway patrol takes advantage of your ambiguous position. 4:00 speeding around a blind corner on wet roads (bike could just as well have been on your side of the road) 6:30 cutting off a car on a roundabout (couldn't see when getting on) and then not even realizing you did when they cut you off 8:30 getting upset at a truck clearing a lane for trucks that may have collided You can just feel that many of the drivers with these dashcams are actually looking forward to confrontation on the road. Keeping the foot down on the gas a little too long, not keeping distance and not anticipating other drivers needs at all.

@@cambsdelivery I have issues with a lot of elderly where I am too. I won't label all with the same brush but some are not safe to be on the roads due to either total lack of reactions, lack of understanding of modern driving or other safety related issues. At the risk of drawing flak from some I think a retest should be done beyond a certain age to ensure people can still drive to a safe standard.

@@southamericaviews You wouldn't believe how sick I get of doing 20 or 30 on lanes that are either 50 or 60 speed limits and i've also nearly had my front end taken off by ones cutting corners too on a junction. I'm not saying other drivers including myself are perfect but it seems that certain things are overlooked whilst other things are abused by the police for cash raising purposes like speed traps etc.

Only took the truck driver 4 seconds to decide to lift off and then break. He had plenty of time to react, in fact he should have been able to come to a complete halt in that time. If he had killed anyone, he would have been at fault, should be thanking the other guy for getting him out of a manslaughter charge.

No, Astra van driver shouldn't have joined the motorway at 25mph, the slip road was so long yet he joins immediately. It's the reason why most motorways are congested and come to a halt near junctions because of people's obsession with merging as soon as possible instead of using the available slip road to get up to speed and allow both current traffic and joining traffic to merge more smoothly. The camera truck could have sailed by without slowing and the truck and van join after it. Apart from using common sense, the highway code states to join a motorway at a speed which doesn't affect traffic already on the motorway.
@Kagome4748
@Kagome4748 6 жыл бұрын
cw205mi16 Not in this case, but when you have a chance to merge, you do it, it doesn't matter if you're still at the beginning of the lane. Since you have to give priority to those who are already on the motorway, you may even have to come to a full stop at the end of the slip lane if the traffic is heavy. That, unless someone decides to let you in, in which case you do affect them.
@cw205mi16
@cw205mi16 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, don't want to cause any offense, but none of what you have written makes any sense and contradicts itself in one paragraph. What do you mean "not in this case"? You don't just merge randomly without any consideration of the traffic already there. True, it's often a mutual arrangement whereby people already on the motorway make way by moving over a lane, but this couldn't happen here, and the truck would not have slowed down as that would be dangerous as the speed diffferential was too high. The small van didn't have a chance to merge, there was a truck barreling down the inside lane, and there was still 200m of slip road left. The small van driver was just too impatient and didn't consider what was going on on the motorway. It's basic common sense not to pull out in front of a truck like that.

I have to admit i've found British roads to be better than most in any other country I visited. If you go to places in far East Asia it's not somewhere i'd like to drive everyday. We do need a lot more repairs done to the roads though. There's been a growing pothole issue for years now. Costs councils a lot in claims for damaged vehicles.
@Will831100
@Will831100 4 жыл бұрын
@hucker75 I actually have no argument there pal. There's speed bumps on my street but the ones I know of in a certain place are so bad that even though they are in a 30 area you have to go down to around 10 miles an hour to get safely over them and I wouldn't even bother in a lowered car as you just wouldn't get down there. It's quite a busy road too which really makes them stupid too considering I never really see many people walking along there at all and it certainly doesn't need the speed bumps in the first place. All in all though I will say that we've had to have the tracking done a few times and it's as much speed bumps as potholes for sure.
@Will831100
@Will831100 4 жыл бұрын
@hucker75 Sounds like a typical council you have then for nowadays. They all seem to be charging more in council tax for less services yet they can afford to waste money on pointless crap like speed humps in areas they're not needed. You'd think the claims against them for so much damage on cars due to bad road maintenance might teach them something about money but clearly not and when it comes to the attitude of that worker it surprises me less. Probably some overpaid waste of space that doesn't know how to think for themselves properly.

How boring English roads are - no Lada's doing U-turns for no reason, no Merc drivers jumping out with bats or guns, no motorbikes trying to undertake in the snow - i'm going back to the Russian dash-cams! By the general standard, though, these shots of mainly near misses (rather than smashes) show that we drive a lot more carefully in the UK, as shown by our road death rates - less people get killed on the road than in the 1930's, when there were only a 1/100th of the cars there are now, I think the stats are.

the Russian dash cams are just crazy, I saw one where a group of thugs made a road block out in the middle of nowhere and were demanding a "tax" from passers by in order to proceed; using their bats as enforcement well a HGV driver radioed his mates and they all turned up, beat the thugs up, and pushed their cars off the edge of the road. quite a bit more entertaining than someone clipping a red light
