G'day! Thanks for the inspiration. My trees are starting to go up through the bird netting on my enclosed orchard and I don't want to be climbing a ladder for fruit. 🙄 Always too to watch and pick up on tips and that apricot has really taken off after the work you put into it. All the best. Daz.

Can I do this to a huge pear tree. It's not been pruned for years. Well over 12 feet tall

1:21 what is the reason behind cutting back to 2 to 3 buds instead of all the way back to the branch? Im assuming youre hoping for fruit spurs there? Thanks Victor! 😝

I believe that this "may" answer your question... Quoted "There is a golden opportunity for you to create fruit spurs as the apples and pears put on that summer growth of tall vertical timber. Prune this vertical growth back by counting up three buds from the horizontal branch they were produced by and undercut the bud above. This leaves a long piece of stem from the bud below, which will die back toward this bud. Undercutting the bud causes the bud below to turn into a fruit spur because, when you threaten plants with death, they will try to flower and produce seed so that the species survive."

Anvil or bypass secateurs? Do you recommend a particular brand?

Anvil is my preference. I use the Lowe No1 vasilisgarden.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=476&search=anvil The Felco secretes are also very good.
