I would warmly recommend The Chosen and The Beautiful - I read it this spring and really loved it 😊(and I have never even read or seen The Great Gatsby, so I was completely unfamiliar with the story). It is super atmospheric in a kinda ephemeral way. And the narrator is top notch and adds to the atmosphere. It is in my top 3 reads of the year so far (only after The Mask of Mirrors and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes)

🗡️ My plans this summer are to finish the Final Architecture trilogy by Adrian Tchaikovsky (already started it!, Gormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake (with the last book left), the Black Company series by Glen Cook (two books left!), and the Heir to the Empire trilogy by Timothy Zahn. I also want to continue reading Discworld (Guards! Guards! will be my next book to read) and my re-read of Liveship Traders.

I'm also starting the Saint of Steel series! Technically I started Paladin's Grace back in the spring, but it was a hectic time and now I'm feeling like saving it for my vacation time later in July. Then I have vague plans to finish the series before the end of the year. I love the world and definitely picked up the other books in the right time/right place, they've all been pretty high up in my recent fantasy rankings, lol ⚔ Other than that, I really need to make some progress with Robin Hobb and Brandon Sanderson, I just don't know when my brain is going to allow me to pick up a chunky book again 😅

I concluded "Between Eart and Sky" by Rebecca Roanhorse and I miss that world so much. What I need to finish: "Dreamblood" -N. K. Jemisin "The Empire of the Wolf" - Richard Swan "The Southern Reach" - Jeff VanderMeer "Patternmaster" - Octavia E. Butler So excited to get to "The Burning Kingdoms".

​@@LiteratureScienceAlliance maybe not. "Black Sun" was my favorite from the series, buy maybe the fact that the author slows things down and takes more time with the character motivations / struggles might work better for you.

⚔I've been reading The Singing Hills Cycle during spring. I really loved the first two, but i read the third one last week and felt very underwhelmed. So i get what you're saying. My biggest series plan for the summer is to finish the First Law trilogy. I read the first book last year and really liked it, but just kept putting off the second book for some reason, so now i have a buddy read planned for books 2 and 3 in August

I am continuing with the Novels of the Malazan Empire. I'm reading (well, not as much as I'd like) Stonewielder and I plan on finishing it kinda soon-ish. Other than that, I don't have many plans, I don't think. And, on that note, it's sad that you're pausing Malazan, but it's very understandable and that's 100% not a series to be read if you're not excited about it and all that, so I 100% understand that call and will be eager to see you come back to it at some point!

So many excellent series ! Loving the journey through Vorkosigan, and very excited to see how she does fantasy. Shame the Nghi Vo novellas arent working for you. Im kinda in the middle with them where I like them but I havent been blown away by them since I was with the first.

The Swordheart breakup made no sense to me lol. Like why did she care so much about that issue?! 😅 Also even though I loved Swordheart, the Paladin books are much stronger in my opinion.
