This year I was lucky to be able to attend the Summer Solstice celebrations at Avebury stone circle and henge in Wiltshire.
The celebrations began at sunset with a performance by a local amateur dramatic society, accompanied by The Kings Drums, and carried on through the night with fire dancers and revelry until it was time to make our way to the top of the henge and greet the sun as it climbed above the eastern horizon, marking the official beginning of summer.
After the chill of the night, with dew settling early and the famous Avebury mists descending amongst the stones, those first rays of the new day were filled with light and welcome warmth for all who had gathered to mark the occasion.
