Summer Song (Yellowjackets) Bass Cover

We've been having a bit of an indian summer of late, so I thought of this song.
I recorded this mainly as an excuse to learn Bobby McFerrin's amazing scat solo. While I really love Yellowjackets, Dreamland is not my favorite album of theirs, and Summer Song is not my favorite song - though the rhythmic modulation is seriously neat. But McFerrin's solo is a thing of beauty.
I tend to like solos that tell a story, and very few people in the world can do that better than Bobby McFerrin. This was a fun learning experience.
I could never hope to match Jimmy Haslip's excellent bass part here, so I gave it one take in the evening sun. A few mistakes, but it's jazz 😊
As always, recorded with my 1974 Precision through my Avalon U5 DI into Logic.

Bro, that was beautiful. This is one of my all-time favorite jackets tune. I AM a drummer learning to play bass (Me making good use of the Covid Era of staying home) and I absolutely loved how you ran the bass solo along side Bobby's scat solo. Great work....Do know I'll be stealing that...giving you credit of course.

Thanks, Lars-Erik. It’s been a long day (about 1AM local time). We are having a different sort of Indian Summer here. I live in Nevada, just east of the huge wildfire in California that is currently threatening the South Lake Tahoe area. All the huge volumes of smoke from this (and several other) wildfires have turned our skies brown and made it almost unbreathable for weeks now. I needed something to help wind down the day and your jazz rendition hit the spot! I especially enjoyed the Bobby McFerrin solo. If there were errors, they must have been minor and I didn’t care anyway.😉 Heading to bed now. Thanks again for (as usual) making my day that much better!
