Hope you have a great reading month! I struggled through Stirling House, not because it wasn't a good story, but because she's so descriptive that even though it's only around 300ish pages, it felt like it was never going to end. I would really like to reread it someday when I have more time. I have so many books that I want to read that I'm zipping through them, and have a list of ones I'd love to go back and reread at a slower pace. This is one of them. I dnf'd the only Joane Fluke book I've ever read and didn't make it through the 2nd day of it. I thought her writing was awful. Good luck with that one :)

It was a great reading month! I hope yours was too! OOOO that's an interesting take that I hadn't thought about - what's worse? Overly descriptive writing or writing that isn't descriptive enough!? I can see what you're saying about how overly descriptive writing could make a book feel slow. & good to know about the Joanne Fluke book - cozy mystery isn't my favorite thing ever so I'm assuming it may not be for me either! 💌

I will say you need to be in the right head space for it. I don’t consider it high fantasy, but there is a learning curve at the beginning to understand the ‘will’ system. Once you get past that, it’s an amazing book.

@@sheisbookedandbusy I got a good mix of middle grade and other books. Got 2 books free with bringing two non-perishable goods to help provide for the food bank. I got 9 books and my daughter got 4 books for $5. I got The Kiss of Deception, Jurassic Park, Once Upon A River, Charlotte's Web & The Witches to read with my daughter, Pennyroyal Academy, To All the Boys I Loved Before, The Candymakers, & Dragons in a Bag. I did see other books there that I am going to have to put on my tbr for later.

I got The Inheritance Games since I enjoyed the series, the second book in the Kiss of Deception series, got the first book in Wings of Fire since my daughter wants to continue the series so I am going to have to get the audiobooks since not the books are converted to graphic novels yet so figured to read the series and catch up to her, and the rest are random middle grades that looked good to check out.

I just read The Wishing Game in May and I thought it might be magical too but it's just general or lit fic. I really liked it, had some issues with it, but really sweet. If you had any Abby Jiminez to read, she owns a bakery so that would have been a good choice for the cookie emoji. 🍪 Your game was really nice for you. J. Fluke books are really good popcorn reads...and you'll come away with some baking recipes ;-). Sunshine is a great vampire novel, in that it's different than the other vampire books/movies that came out around the same time. *coughsookiecoughbellacough* A side from vampires and the Others, there IS a lot of baking in the book. Lets just say, Sunshine forced me to go on a mission to find the best cinnamon rolls in my area!

I haven’t read The Will of the Many, but I did read all of The Licanius trilogy, and I have to say that The shadow of what was lost is actually not dense at all for high fantasy. It’s very accessible and fast paced. The only issue that I can see is if you wait too long in between the books as you won’t remember all the names of people… I also have to say that it’s more 700 pages, and Orbit has very big fonts compared to Tor for example so it’s not as bad as you’d think in size… In terms of dense fantasy, for comparison, it took me a month to read The final empire by Brandon Sanderson, while I managed to read The shadow of what was lost in like a week (3 days for the sequels, with the audio that is pretty good, but also I think Audible exclusive)

First of all, I love this comment because it is soo incredibly well thought out & detailed! What an incredible review & insight into The Licanius Trilogy! I'm glad to hear that it's more accessible than I initially thought...I think I'm realizing that I'm just allowing myself to get intimidated by the series as a whole, which I need to stop 🛑 The actual page count doesn't bother me much because I loooooooove a good 700+ page fantasy adventure, but I have heard that the characters can be a bit confusing so that checks out! I also loved your comment on the font size from different publishers! Something that is not often thought about but sooo true! & makes a huge difference! I own pretty much all of Brandon Sanderson's collective works & he's another one I'm having trouble getting into 🤷🏼‍♀️ I haven't gotten into audiobooks yet, but maybe I should check them out to help me out with that!

Is Finley Donavon actually a cozy? Idk. I haven't read it. I just thought it was a mystery-comedy. My mom quit the Hannah Swenson books at like 18 or something. I LOVE cozies. I would suggest doing a paranormal cozy mystery... You might like the paranormal/fantasy elements mixed in....

Great question! I've heard it classified as cozy but I would agree with your categorization more - I think it's more mystery comedy. I honestly did not enjoy it at all. So maybe that's what I don't like 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'll have to try more actual cozies to see! Yes! I really think paranormal cozy mystery might incorporate some more fantastical elements which probably would hold my attention better.

I feel like I am one of the only people who didn’t love Throne of Glass, it was just OK for me. I own Crown of Midnight, so I will read that, but if I don’t enjoy it more than the first book, then I will probably DNF the series.

I felt the same way! I read Throne of Glass in my Reading Fantasy for a Week video & I say basically the same thing! I'm definitely going to move on in the series & give it another shot with COM, so we'll see how that goes! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hating definitions when you have to find another definition is why I as a teacher of mostly second language fifth graders, didn’t make my students ever look up words in the dictionary for their definitions. It makes them so frustrated.

I'm currently in the middle of Starling House and it is *one of the best* books I've read so far this year - easily top 5. I also completely agree with you on The Cruel Prince - have read it like 2 months ago, and was pretty unimpressed by it tbh. Luckily I kinda knew that it was more political and less romance, so I went in with the right expectations, but I cannot believe that it's being marketed as a romance first, because that is the most disingenuous thing ever 😅 On a side note, I'm always low key surprised by how many thrillers you own even though you always say you don't really like them that much 🤭 Are you going to join the 'Every Romantasy' Challenge by coverswithcassidy? ~ I think that might make for a fun video idea.

Ok now you’re making me REALLY excited to start Starling House!! 😄 yeah, I truly don’t understand the cruel prince hype. I found it boring, I HATED the main male character, & honestly found the female main character pretty insufferable as well…the ending got a liiiiiiiittle bit interesting but that was about it for me. As for it being marketed as a Romantasy…hard NO from me 🙅🏼‍♀️ I am also high key surprised by how many thrillers I own/continue to buy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 the only way I can describe it is this: I just keep hoping for one to blow my mind and change my mind on the whole entire genre!
