I’ve always loved these. They were one of the 80+ plants I had in my 8x10 bedroom growing up.

As an addict of succulents/cacti, pepperomias looks very appealing to me! Some look succulent esque, and their leaves are gorgeous. Also sounds like they could survive care similar to my succulents, since I water them once a week :) So not a huge commitment like say some ferns

The fact that Summer said she sees watermelon peps in nurseries often blows my mind! I have traveled far and wide in my area and haven’t found one. I finally special ordered some from a local nursery but it’s taking forever 😫

Just discovered this channel. So helpful. and charming. I definitely have been overwatering my poor peperomia The more she drooped, the more I tried to tend to her. But she wasn’t thirsty after all...

I think she’s recovering again. Just pulling off the limp bits and gonna pace myself with the watering for a week at a time. All my other roommates are much more thirsty. plants and cats.

Do you know the plant Peperomia pellucida ("Crab-claw plant") it grows like a weed here in the Philippines (it is considered a weed) but you can actually eat the leave as a salad.

Hiya, thanks a ton for this video. I have managed to propagate the leaves of my dying peperomia , so hopefully it'll work. I'm also going to get more peperomias, they're just beautiful.

Can you do a video/do you already have one about propagating the parallel pepermonia?
@StrangeDisposition5 жыл бұрын
My parallel baby is struggling and I hardly water it. I gave it hydrogen peroxide and put it on a sunny winter window so it can dry out the soil but I think there’s too much peat in there and I’m scared to repot and stress it out more 😞

I only slightly water my peperomia, about once a month. It's in a mixture of pine bark fines, perlite and coco peat. Still, it rots. I'm so confused.

Ellen Meerschaut i could be totally wrong Here but i have a theorie: maybe the roots dry out too much and „die“ because you water too little and when you water the dry roots they rot. It’s Like with succulents, if you wait too long inbetween Watering the roots dry Out and cannot absorb water:o! Maybe try again Next Time and dont wait too long in between Watering. Hope that maybe will help!:)

Coco peat absorbs lot of water and this makes the soil soggy.

I mix African violet and cactus soil for peperomia. Water thoroughly as soon as the soil dries.

Do the pilea need more water? I was told not to let them dry out.

Hi Summer, i love your channel and have watched all your videos recently. I'm wondering if ashes from a fireplace or from burning leaf piles could act as a fertilizer for some plants if mixed in the soil.. Like how land used to be "burnt down" to make it more fertile.

Dear Summer, have you ever seen the movie " Seraphine" it's a French movie. If you love Peperomias and you like Basquiat you have to watch Seraphine.

Hi. I just got a parallel peperomia plant about a 8-9 days ago and the bottom leaves are turning brown and dry. I had already removed 3 such leaves 2 days ago and was disappointed to find another turning brown when I returned from work. What could be the cause? I only watered it once 2 days ago since I got the plant.

Hi Summer, I have got a Peperomia tetragona. I don't know why it is losing its new leaves along with older ones. The stems look okay... I repotted it a few weeks back when I found one of the stems rotting. Today I just lifted it up from the stand and a few leaves dropped. Can you please help? I have placed it in a well drained soil and it's near a window.

Hey Summer! I remember in one of your other videos you mentioned that you sometimes play music for your plants because you saw some research that said it encouraged growth. I'm writing a research paper on plants and music stimuli, would you be able to tell me where you may have seen these research papers that you reaD? I've been looking but haven't been able to find some with raw data provided. If you could help or point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it so much! Happy planting :)

Hi Summer, great video as always! I'm actually thinking of purchasing a watermelon peperomia! I was wondering, do you own plumerias? if not, you should, they are in general, really beautiful. The leaves themselves are very pretty and oh, the flowers! I'd love to see one fo your videos dedicated to them, since I'm growing plumeria seedlings and two cuttings some advice would be nice :) Thanks!

I just have a question regarding the soil you use. Since they have succulent leaves, should I use a mix with more drainage (perlite/sand/pumice/etc) than I normally would for a non-succulent house plant? Should I adapt the mix to the degree of "succulentness" of the leaves? Or are they forgiving enough for me to use the same regular potting mix for all of them. It's been some time now that I want to buy different varieties of these beautiful plants and your video arrived at the right time! Thanks!
@summerrayneoakes7 жыл бұрын
Wonderful question. I know Steve from Steve's Leaves uses regular potting mix, which still has good drainage. I do try to pot my more succulent varieties (e.g., Peperomia dolabriformis) in more succulent mix, though I don't think it is absolutely necessary, as I know many growers who forgo the typical "succulent mix" sold in stores and go straight for standard potting mix. I would just make sure that your soil is not getting compacted, and to change it / refresh it when it does. Great question again!

What does he mean by "let the soil dry"? Dry out or just dry on the surface?

usually it means the first inch or so of soil.

bebehas bebehas I always read different reccommendations. A couple of days before I read peperomias like some direct sunlight. For some of my p. I really can't find the right spot.
@010345995 жыл бұрын
@@nessanessa2934 Try to place your plant around different areas and see how it reacts tbh. I had my peperomia obtusifolia on my sunny window and it got sunburnt luckily i was keeping an eye on it so the damage wasn't bad. However, moving it to a shady corner in my room has worked wonders.
