Interest rates will be higher for longer and so will the rate of inflation be higher than the 2% target.
@dreamweaver80

Exactly. And, does anyone really believe the inflation numbers anyway? I mean they are clearly manipulated.

This basically means we are screwed. I think the markets are full of a bunch of younger people that think once the Fed cuts rates a little that means we are going back to something like 2% or even lower. that is the crazy part. I mean the lowest I see monetary Fed rate is 3.75 and that is for like a 5-10 years. People need to get use to the era of free money being over.

Fed rates can’t go down to 2%. That’s not on the table. 5% seems reasonable for awhile, then maybe 4%. We won’t see 2-3% for a very long time, useless we hit a recession, or reenter globalization (not likely w nationalism)

Summers is Harvard educated economist, right? If you trade by his predictions so far, you’d be lucky to have anything at all in your trading account.

well, bash him all you want, but he was the only prominent insider who called BS on the whole "transitionary" thingy right? literally most people I knew bought hard asset like property then just to hedge what EVERYONE with half ounce of intelligence could have seen was coming: inflation, it was so obvious with the extra Fed printing and extra trillions from the Fed, it's math 1 o 1, yet only he came out and called it out, make you wonder what to believe...

We should have had an adjustment by now. We have not - prices are not coming down. There is a bubble in there and its gonna pop. Always does. However, the longer it goes without correction, the worse the bubble is going to be - just look at the history of the markets. Buckle up.

Everything is still costly and clearly prices will not come down. Bloomberg in Lala land, there is no calculation in the discussions about the increase in insurance in most states. People are getting poorer, salaries don't keep up with housing cost, rentaling or home ownership.

US has 30 year fixed rates. Europe, UK, Australia all have 3-5 year fixed. The rest of the world does the heavy lifting, Interest rates are less effective in the US, because they only affect home buyers, not home owners.

Summers commented " if Fed has realized". I am not here to defend FED, but I find it to be insulting to FED. I think Summers should go and relax on a island. if you think about this - He thinks FED does not know what he is doing! OMG he thinks Brandon know what is going on Economy.

agree with him that there are bubbles, BUT bubbles can last for many years... we're in the 1st inning of this cycle and nowhere near the euphoric levels required for a crash but that will come in the next few years, that is simply how cycles work, over exuberance and then a big crash, rinse and repeat. My guess is that we reach 7000 on the S&P 500 then the 40-50% crash to 3500-4000 then a recovery cycle after that.

Raising interest rates high enough to drop inflation back to 2% will drive the interest on the Federal debt to levels unthinkable and perhaps unpayable.

interest rate may come down soon because of US deficit, the high interest rate means a lot higher interest rate for government borrowing

100% agree. The Fed and other central banks hooked the world on near zero interest rates which resulted in massive public and private deficits which can only be maintained by returning interest rates to near zero. QE will also return massively. Japan is the poster child of where we are heading: 30 years on zero (or below zero) interest rates and the Japanese central bank owning 60% of all Japanese public and private debt and 40% of all Japanese stocks. It all blows up unless interest rates are near zero.
