This song was my introduction to these fine musicians. While searching for Joan Gilberto, I came across Joan Chamorro (rhymes with tomorrow) and listened to this version of Summertime. The peaceful, calm, confident young singer captivated my attention. THEN she picked up a trumpet!! And I was blown away. Always liked this song. My sister used to play it on the piano when we were much younger. So, I began searching for more music by Ms. Chamorro (because I believed her name was Joan ... you know). It took a while because she was in some songs but not in others. Funny how that happens but perfectly understandable because Joan showcases his musicians and leads from his base “usually the bass”. Months later I realized who Joan Chamorro was, and Andrea of course, and all of the rest of the various groups. And now I try to watch everything They do.

Well except for the names and a few other changes if you talk about me the story is the same one. Yeah Name That Tune. No seriously this was also my first introduction to Joan and Company. I on the other hand was searching for Israel- cachao- Lopez a bass player from Cuba who is arguably the father of Mambo and the jam session. He also wrote and recorded the music to the song that was to become Oye Como Va back in 1937. Like you I fell in love with Joan and Company immediately subscribed and have been enjoying his music and talented young musicians for many years now.

I became addicted to Sant Angelou and Joan Chamorro’s arrangements when coming across the videos from when the Armengou sisters were playing trumpet at 6 and 8 years old (look for Easy Money from 2011).

I enjoy very much this version that I recorded back in 2002 with my daughter Lilo and it became a very popular Cd then. I have deep respect for Andrea Motis and you Joan Chamorro for all the good music that you are performing and putting on youtube.

i have lost count of the number of times i have listened to this both video and the album i downloaded. so much that i went to Barcelona to see them in concert in the axa auditorio and got to go on stage at the end to tell them how much i enjoyed it, Joan was surprised i came from the UK for that concert and Andrea was charming. i will be travelling in Spain in a couple of weeks for some time and hope to see them again.

I simply love this young lady and her feeling for this music. This tune holds a special place in my heart. As very young children my mother would sing "Red Sails In The Sunset" for my brother and my bedtime request was ALWAYS "Summertime" My mom grew up on the coast of Mississippi, went to Ol' Miss (then) State College and Oklahoma University. She sang in the choir at both schools and had a beautiful voice (prejudges statement, but none the less true) "Summertime" was originally a southern blues song, sung with influence of Southern Black Spiritual music. The line is actually "your Mammy 's good lookin' " but I'll forgive Ms Motis. Her English is excellent but she probably doesn't know about American cultural differences in the language. In spite of difference in accent, she sings this song just as soulfully as my mother ever did. I had to clear the lump in my throat before writing this. Scott; we were born a month apart, but somehow you got the musical talent I always wanted. Your records taught me to play the tenor, but I can only mimic your style. You have been my musical mentor since 1986 and you never knew it. Thanks to all in this ensemble for doing this piece
