Once upon a time a trumpet player who I highly respected when asked who the greatest lead trumpet player in his opinion was.Without hesitation he replied....Billy Butterfield.I thought it was Gozo,but what do I know.This was back in 1956.

I met him and his wife Dottie in 1978 in Fort Lauderdale. Yes, he did perform for me. I was dating one of his twin daughters at the time. I told my father who's daughter I was dating. "WHAT,"! is all he said. Then one day Billy drove over to my parents house looking for us. My dad answered the door. Dad just stood there with his mouth open. My dad and Billy played with Artie Shaw but at different times.
