EMT's and ambulance drivers have special radio codes depending on the severity of the issue that they are having. I read a story about a woman who was walking out a hospital after having dialysis done. She walked onto the bus and her dialysis port caught on a bus seat, ripped out of her leg and cut into her femoral artery. The EMT recalled it as having blood pooling in the bus's floor, enough to make a puddle and ripple. So much that it was dripping down the steps and into the snow, melting it. It's a code used when 'shit hits the fan'. Like when the ambulance itself is in a car accident or one of them is taken hostage. It calls all services to their location, everything. The story cuts back to a recollection of when the EMT was training with her tourniquet. Her teacher was saying that the first time you have to use one will haunt you for the rest of your life because if someone is losing enough blood to need it then their odds are very not good. They actually have a television show about the code. Think it's called Code Black. Fortunately for this woman, she ended up making it.
