Most brands have pretty similar designs (aside from spintech) You'd be better looking at a 40 series versus a flowfx versus an outlaw

I called MF several years ago to ask for flow numbers for a specific muffler and the sales guy said they would NOT provide that information to me. Glad someone was listening. BTW, David Visard says that you need a muffler that flows 2.3 CFM per open pipe HP to have a lossless muffler.

Magic Questtion: How much CFM would be on the display if the pipe and(!) the muffler are mounted on the test bench?! (more like a regular exhaust system) Is it somewhere in the middle?

I say this test is not totally accurate because exhaust has pulse waves that slow down and speed up. Exhaust does not run at one consistent and steady full blast speed. If you watch the muffler and how much longer it actually took to get to the strait pipe reading then there you go it is slower. So what does one think will happen with the actual exhaust waves with all different speeds coming from the headers going faster and slower and the slower ones having to catch up but then they get canceled out by one or 2 more waves? I like MagnaFlow but nice try on selling them lol

Thanks for watching and commenting. You are right about the waves/pulses, and he does cover that at the 5:30 mark. But at full capacity, the muffler is able to keep up with and exceed the flow of the straight-through because of the perf-core inner design.

@@SummitRacing im not gonna lie, I stopped watching after the Magnaflow was tested after the strait pipe in the beginning. Once I saw how fast the open pipe hit peek flow and how the muffler struggled and then finally caught up and went a little past it I was done. I also noticed the Magnaflow fit much tighter on the flow pipe than the strait pipe 👀 I use to be a Flowmaster guy back in the day but grew out of them. I like Magnaf;ow and Spintech but I have been running 3" open pipes for years. Infact I just made new ones 2 months ago.

That muffler that flipped over that pipe is the same size all the way through so it's actually a little bit bigger than 3 inch all the way through I believe isn't it?

@daviddup1978 at idle I think they are very deep. At high rpm they get a little raspy but less than flow master in my opinion

I would have never guessed that muffler weighs 14 lbs! 😮 28 lbs in mufflers? I'm guessing the stainless steel is part of the reason but wow!

How about a muffler that has an offtet inlet and outlet and use a curved pipe to compare

If you want to try and be more quieter, why not put two in tandem ? An additional 14# against lower sound but Higher FLOW....

Simple theory… the “perforated” tube breaks up the surface stiction of the air…

I don’t comment much but I feel dumber after watching this Hey magnaflow that goes on the back of the car not the front you don’t pull air through the muffler it’s not an air filter Pulling air through something is not the same as pushing air through something Pushing expands air and makes it tumble on it self and slow down pulling air makes it want to follow a straight path and not tumble on its self That muffler acts like a sorta Venturi speeding air up when it’s pulled through it compared to the straight pipe That muffler test makes no since Blow air through both and bet the straight pipe wines There’s not one dyno muffler challenge on you tube where substituting a muffler for straight pipe made more power Snake oil and lies Straight bs

But how much flow does your engine produce in a single pipe? For instance, a Suburban can hold more than a Civic, but if it's just you and your wife, the extra space is wasted.

Bogus test? let’s see a normal cars exhaust length , 5ft or more of pipe with and without the muffler and retest

This is null…. First of all you’re flowing COLD air through that muffler …. Secondly when those mufflers break in and those fibers melt …. That muffler will eventually turn into a straight pipe
