'We live in an age in which there is no heroic death.'

You can see this most obviously with the reactions to the cope cooties. The only thing that seems to be important is simply staying alive. Our godless society may make a mockery of religion and heroism but those that do so are the most terrified of death because they know subconsciously that they lead a meaningless life.

On the topic of Japanese writers, everyone should check out the few works of Musashi Miyamoto. The man was the definition of the stoic warrior type and we’re fortunate enough that he wrote down his philosophies in two books. The book of five rings, which deals more with the combat side of his life, and Dokkodo (the path of aloneness) which deals more with his personal philosophies, traps to avoid etc etc.

The Book of Five Rings is a useless read in the 21st century. It does not discuss strategy, at all, in fact, it's just a poorly translated guide to stepping any which way and then "cutting down" your opponent. He repeats himself often and doesnt really say anything the modern reader has never heard before. It's an overrated book and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone other than those who have an interest in Kendo. And even then, it's still hardly worth your time.

In Norse mythology, only the champions who fall in battle get a seat in Valhalla. People who die of old age go to hel, which is not nearly as honorable. In Valhalla, the mead keeps flowing and the fallen champions fight to the death every day only to be resurrected again, to feast and fight to the death again. ”The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” - Mark Twain Also, check out ”virtus” from roman society. High Thumos Stay Based

Dude you should read DH Lawrence's books, he has the same philosophy, sensuality is much more important than all the the intellectualism in the world. The intellectuals have forgotten that they are still the primal animal trying to hunt prey for food. He wrote his books around the time industrialization was taking root and growing rapidly, taking away our souls. Our instincts are based less on our senses now than the expections of society. Read 'The Rainbow', I bet you'll love it. Just read the first chapter to see how he commits his prose to sensuality.

The thinking mind is not bad! Its better to be a free thinker thinking in the moment, being sharp and focused then being a thoughtless, mindless slave just drowsing around in life without a purpose. I dont get why alot of people see thoughts as a bad thing or put it in a negative light. Ofcourse its logic that you need a strong and physically fit body but most people that dont have one is because they lack self awareness (a lack of deep thought)

Mishima is more about the reconciliation of two Nietzschean notions: the Apollonian and the Dionysian. Both Nietzsche and Mishima argue that it's the Apollonian, or the "intensely rationality" of man that has took over modernity. I will contradict you: everyone puts too much emphasis on the rational these days, millenia of natural instinct is discredited in the face of quantifiable data. Mishima talks beyond developing a body, he talks about Thumos ( spiritedness), sacrifice, honour, courage and all other virtues of action and instinct. He calls us to be bold in our actions and be in contact with nature ( hence "Sun" in title), not only about the Steel

Hey Elisha have you read the book Courage: The joy of living dangerously by Osho? It's a all time favorite of mine and helped me turn my life around. Here's some of my favorite quotes from the book : “They say: Think twice before you jump. I say: Jump first and then think as much as you want!” ― Osho, Courage: The Joy of Living Dangerously “Don't try to understand life. Live it! Don't try to understand love. Move into love. Then you will know - and all that knowing will come out of your experiencing. The more you know, the more you know that much remains to be known.” ― Osho, Courage: The Joy of Living Dangerously “The greatest fear in the world is of the opinions of others. And the moment you are unafraid of the crowd you are no longer a sheep, you become a lion. A great roar arises in your heart, the roar of freedom.” ― Osho, Courage: The Joy of Living Dangerously “Those who are courageous, go headlong. They search all opportunities of danger. Their life philosophy is not that of insurance companies. Their life philosophy is that of a mountain climber, a glider, a surfer. And not only in the outside seas they surf; they surf in their innermost seas. And not only on the outside they climb Alps and Himalayas; they seek inner peaks. But remember one thing: never forget the art of risking- never, never. Always remain capable of risking. Wherever you can find an opportunity to risk, never miss it, and you will never be a loser. Risk is the only guarantee for being truly alive.” -Osho

I appreciate you taking your time to shed light on this book to a lot of people who are not aware of his literature. I hope you do keep in mind that his writings were just that only his writings. to his own admission him and his mother conspired for him to get out of military service when he was 18 years old for World war II period. Parents will highly educated and so was he but he had level affairs with the Kabuki dancers which are men dressed up as women. His family was disgusted by this and he went out of his way to act extra macho to make up for it. He refused to stand next to women in pictures or Mary or have relationships friends romantic with any woman that was over 5'2 because he was only 5'4. As far as his little takeover or whatever you refer to it as it was absolutely ludicrous what he did. him and his coat like followers went into basically the Pentagon of Japan took over an office which is now the the office of the United States Marine corps Apache to japan. The bullet holes are still there in the wall from the takeover. He had no business being there it was absolutely insane he was calling for Japan to go back to their ways of separatism and declare war against any Western power in Asia and to take over all the lands but they secured through war too. That is not complete terrorism I don't know what is. He also was constantly firing photographers for taking pictures of him to show his muscles and if his legs were in the picture because he was very insecure about his skinny legs. This man wrote well but it was his make-believe as Lord of the rings. I'm impressed with the fact that you actually took the time to learn about this guy most people in the west know nothing about him even in Japan a lot of people have forgotten all about him and his terrorism. If you have the time I would like suggest to read the five rings by a true samurai the greatest undefeated samurai the only one to retire Mayhimoto Musashi

It's a great book, but I think it just fueled this dude bro's superiority complex. There's this subtext in the book about a man who struggles with the changing times, where there's no need to be a 24/7 warrior. He was a fighter with no war to fight. The thing is: You can take the book literally or metaphorically: Either be an actual warrior or a "warrior of confidence", having a warrior's mindset and fitness and a union of strength. But If you really wanna take it literally and be a warrior so bad and get a warrior's death, join the military. Get your head blown off by a foreign separatist or something.
