Amazing review! I love the details and the scoring system. I'm only 3 hours from Sun Peaks and haven't been yet as we've been trying out all the smaller hills first. Trying to decide between SP and Big White for our first "fancy mountain" trip next year. Thanks so much for helping me get a better idea of what it's like! Glad to hear you like our Canadian mountains and I will be checking out your other reviews!

While Big White gets more snow than Sun Peaks, Big White's well earned nickname is Big Whiteout. Sun Peaks has a better village layout and has less local skiers.

We went to Big White last season for 1 week and loved it very much! We were super lucky. There is one white out day and the rest of the week are perfect! The snow ghosts are amazing and I already plan to go back again after I visit Sun Peaks and a few other ski resorts in the west.

Great video, as someone who has gone to sun peaks many times I can agree with pretty much all that you have said. I do want to point out though that at 15:50 when you said you have to cross the road, if you go up sundance and toward orient there is an underpass for skiers to get right to the base of the Morrisey chairlift
@dennisheffley2803 Жыл бұрын
I was about to mention the same! When returning to the village area from Morrisey, you take the Orient Lift, then get on The Main Village Run over to Rambler. A few turns later and your at the Village Base area. The Orient Lift also provides excellent access to the condo's.

Why did the skier cross the road? For first tracks! This past week, (Mar 2023) we crossed the bridge on foot at 8am, loaded on the Morrisey platter which opens at 8:15. Aaah - first tracks on corduroy on "The Sticks" and "Still Smoking". Often it's wonderful with new snow! Rarely a line at all. Easy walk if you start close to the bridge area or start from the parking lot. Or....If you're closer to the Orient which opens at 8:30.

Many of us instructors and family's from Mohan skiing and boarding at Snoqualmie pass, near Seattle, have visited Opening and or closing week ( were cheap! ) for the last 20 years by car and or charter bus. Your review is spot on! The grooming is fantastic due to the low humidity snow and lack of a of rocks. So much better than our wet cascade snow. Several of us will be there April 2nd 2023 for a week or so. The mountain host know several us by sight and we always use the when appropriate.

Yes, I have actually met her at sun peaks before and she gave me a couple tips to help with my skiing

Sun Peaks has an on going summer grooming program in which they have picked rocks, planted grass, cut weeds, and pulled every stump on the mountain. Its the reason SP is usually the first in the B.C. interior to open every year in late November, usually just before US Thanksgiving. Early season SP can have a base that is 20-30cm thinner than other resorts, but have better coverage.

I always wanted to go, but now it's for sure. The drive has always put me off but looks like it is worth it. Dang covid, though, I don't want to book anything and then not make it across the border or get stuck in Canada!

I am very impressed with all the tourists who come all the way from Australia, New Zealand, Asia Pacific and Europe. A half day or full day drive is worth it for Sun Peaks, SilverStar or Big White. Rating for getting there shouldn't be a Rating. It's a destination, you have decided to travel, enjoy.

the lift waits are always worse on weekends and there has been a few times where that ive spent around 10 mins waiting to ride a lift
@trailreviews36282 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! 10 minutes is still nowhere near as bad as 1 hour plus at Vail resorts though
@thedogeamazearmy61552 жыл бұрын
Sun peaks usually has short lines but on morrissey, you rarely have to wait more than a minute or 2
@dennisheffley2803 Жыл бұрын
I asked about that with folks I know at Sun Peaks. This was happening during the pandemic because there was no single line at the lifts. If you had one person by themselves, or two, or three . . . that's all they would send up on a chair. so unfortunate, but understandable due to the situation. But still, a max of a ten minute wait on a weekend compared to other resorts . . . yes please!!!

BC law requires masks so they don’t have a choice. This being said I’ve been to places way less strict and don’t follow these policies so I really like sun peaks for this

Right on! The resorts I have been to in Canada since COVID have been pretty good (Whisterl-Blackcomb and Fernie).
