I must have been 4 when I first heard this song on my uncles radio. It must have been 1980.When I hear this song now, memories of my childhood comes flooding back. Me, my sister and my parents would spend most of our summer vacations in a beautiful place near the backwaters in Kerala. My maternal grandmother used to make wonderful food and also tell stories from the Bible at night,lying on a mat in the lawn.Those were magical times.Its been decades since my grandma died but this song brings back ancient memories.

His range, classical touch,melodies,fast numbers and ability to sing in any language with ease is phenomenal... He has sung in almost every Indian language... Songs like Shadjane Paya, Devasabhathalam, Pramadavanam etc proves this... He is a very underrated legend born in a place without lots of media attention...Still he managed to sing in different languages just because of his immense talent.... Still remember hearing this in my uncles radio in 1980 or 81.I was 4 years then, and spent holidays in my mother's ancestral house in Kottayam. It had a huge lake in front and had 2 rivers on sides. Food was cooked with dried palm leaves as there was no gas.Nights were spent listening to stories told by my granny, under a moonlit sky in the ground in front of our house. My favorite toy was a wooden bus bought by my grandma.On monsoons, I enjoyed watching my paper boats floating in tiny rivers.I loved catching tiny fishes with a palm basket.Now,my heart aches when I think about my beautiful childhood. My granny and my uncle have passed away a long time ago.

I came back here today cause of my granny, it was one of her favorite song. She passed away yesterday.. I used to play this song and let her hear when she was hospitalized and she used to respond after hearing it. Granny I miss you so much words aren't enough to express how I'm missing you.. RIP love you always and forever.

The dip in the voice in the begiinning after the second sunayna , so soothing. How many of you have noticed in the last stanza, Aaaj mere sapne ko tum dekho, and then meethe sapnon ko tum dekho. Whether intentional or not makes the song even more beautiful.
