Sunbeam 42.1 Sailboat Tour 2019 Walkthrough (PTC Review) - Boot Dusseldorf 2019

I have not been on many center cockpit sailboats, especially in the 40' range. This Sunbeam 42.1 from Sunbeam yachts impressed me with a clever use of such a configuration.

Gotta love what center-cockpits do. A high freeboard, cockpit foot-space is over the engine, and voila you got a huge rear cabin. Take a look at the gunboat 43, same recipe, (one of the versions offer stacked pullman cabin for 6 berths) Whats really interesting is, Im a HUGE fan of the Sirius 40, that one is a deck-salon, then look at the nordship 43 / sunbeam 42. only 2 feet more.. BUT each of them have impressive more space for 6 berths. where the sirius have fairly crammed front, center and rear cabins. I love what sirius do otherwise, but keep thinking I would love to see them lift the rear deck and make a high rear/center cockpit and put a proper owners cabin under that rear deck.

Yes! I've had similar sentiments about the 40DS. On the one hand the layout is ingenious. And I always loved cosy nooks. On the other hand, the Beneteau 45 I sailed last month keeps popping into mind (yes, it's five feet longer). But the combined salon+galley open space is about 3x4m at full standing height. It just gives you this feeling of room! Maybe I'm too much focused on weeklong charters in larger groups. The Sirius is for passagemaking, where my knowledge is still mostly theoretical/KZbin.

The heater is indeed reachable but seems like there’s a lot of space to both sides that could be used a bit more efficient

Well, yes, but keep in mind that the heater produces... heat. 😁 Maybe it just needs some space

You reach a bow chain locker through a second bow locker... there is a removable panel

There is no central cockpit sailboat with two aft cabins... and almost no central cockpit boats for charter. Sunbeam is too expensive to be suitable for charter, so you probably won’t find it in any fleet. Comparing Sunbeam and Beneteau is certainly not the best thing as they offer two combletely different kind of boats ;)
