Mahalo from Hawaii! It's cool to see an Australian on an OC1. We mostly get surf ski paddlers from Down Under. Excellent run & video!

Those splits! Epic! A good tale on the importance of being prepared, stuff (insert other word) happens. Being prepared ensures the best chance of a good outcome as the crew did here. Mother Nature is all and powerful and must always be respected, again as the crew did on this day.

Love it! One of the best downwind videos I have seen. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to film and narrate and edit. As a beginner it would be more instructive if the downwind footage was played in real time so I could get a feel for your paddle rate and boat speed, it seems like you slow some of the scenes down which does add to the drama but for me decreases the usefullness.

Glad you enjoyed it! - This day was pretty unique! There are other uploads (Epic West Aus DW) that are in real time. cheers 🤙🏼

It looks like you were leaning to the left most of the time. In retrospect would you set up the boat differently for more stability?

FAAAAARRRRRRRKKKKK! Only a couple of times did the smile disappear...only to return pretty bloody quickly! Were you aware of the others and where they were? Did you know about the rescue while you were paddling, or afterwards? You're a brave (or crazy) man!!
@PaddleLifeWesternAustralia3 жыл бұрын
I had no idea of the rescue when paddling - I was well finished. I did now we had a issue with a possible paddler struggling - had word from @foil_perth when he came through - that's why I made the call to go ahead and get to the car in the chance I need to pick someone up from another beach somewhere.

Hi, I note you used to paddle skis but now look like more focused on outriggers. I'm wondering if you can give a bit of an experienced comparison between the two. I'm nearly 60 and currently competently paddle skis (Stellar SR), mostly flat water and some ocean when conditions are light (no downwinders yet) but there is no ski community where I live. I'm thinking of moving to outriggers as there is a small club nearby. Thanks

Its all about the vibe 🤙🏼😆 Over the years injury has forced me to make changes to my activities - OC is just way cool!!

Here in Hawaii, if you paddle '6-Man' outrigger canoes (club paddling), paddlers tend toward OC1 (1-man outrigger canoes) as the stroke is the same for 6-man outrigger canoes. I hope this helps you.

Great Video!! What configuration are you using to film on your GoPro? For example, quality, FPS, lens size (Wide, narrow)?
@PaddleLifeWesternAustralia2 жыл бұрын
I generally stick to 2.7k, 60/120 FPS and Wide or Superview 🤙🏼

Yah, epic paddle for sure. Crazy conditions! I just got an OC1 and can't wait for days like that. I have surfed my whole life so I know the ocean well. I saw you lean all the way almost to the ama, nuts! Why don't you use the head strap for the Gopro? And, do you use any kind of water repellent for the lens?
@PaddleLifeWesternAustralia3 жыл бұрын
Hey Karlos, thanks for watching! GoPro - head strap - always tends to bounce around too much for my liking, and I usually wear a cap which can make the angle tricky. Ive tried several formulas to try keep the lens clear - and good old licking the lens seems to be the easiest and best solution I've found!
@karlosb84233 жыл бұрын
@@PaddleLifeWesternAustralia Oh ok thanks. Question , is it easy to buckle an OC1 if you nose dive on a wave?
