Snake gourd is Padwal in hindi, pointed gourd is Parwal, turai is Ridge guard, lauki is bottle gourd, karela is bitter gourd, galka is sponge gourd. Being a South Indian we use all kinds of gourds and kaddus in our recipes like sambar or avial. By the way sponge gourd is consumed only when it's tender. Once it's very ripe, it's let to dry out on the plant and then it's skin is removed to get natural loofah. Gourds are packed with minerals and vitamins. The juice of gourds has anti aging properties.
