I like that you were able to make your own sauce with what you had in the fridge. The chicken looks delicious. I have done a collard-turnip green mix. That turns out well. I have started on a vegetable quest. Have you ever tried bok choy. also called Chinese cabbage. I tried it with a recipe, and my family has been hooked ever since. You wash it, cut off the bottom, chop it up and cook in olive oil with onions. Add a tinge of lemon, if you want. It is crunchy. and delicious. Thanks for giving us another great meal. Stay blessed.

Your dinner looks delicious. I haven't had rutabaga in years. I just might have to get me one, or two 🙂. I cooked Sunday dinner. Had some barbecue ribs, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, collard greens and cornbread. Even made a chocolate cake ☺. The folks said "this taste almost like thanksgiving ". I laughed and told them it wouldn't be long. Thanks so much for sharing ❤.

I like rutabagas and turnip roots....and stems! lol My grandmother would put the turnip roots in the same pot as her greens and they would soak up the flavor of the broth. I may not have a garden like she did to grow those things, but I sure am glad I learned how to cook them like she did.

Also - have you now stopped using butter ??

I saw cans of rutabaga on the grocery shelf for years and decided to finally try one. I ate a piece right out of the can. It tasted like mild cooked cabbage. When I heated the rutabaga up I added some chunky cinnamon applesauce to it and could not tell where the applesauce ended and the rutabaga began because the rutabaga was so mild. I saw a newspaper article several decades ago where the writer said his co-worker boils, drains and mashes her rutabagas like potatoes and than adds butter, a little orange juice concentrate, and a dusting of grounded mace. Best wishes!

Rutabagas are wonderful! I love them, and the potato peeler works for me too. Two years ago, I had a trigger finger (left thumb) that was horrible - it would get stuck, and it pained me to pull it back lol. Ended up with a cortisone shot - has been fine ever since. Thanks so much for sharing this throw-back dish with us! Making some soon!
@westcentralchurchofchristw72285 жыл бұрын
They're good by themselves also, many people know nothing about them though. Cut up into small cubes and boil add a little pepper, they don't even need meat for seasoning...so good. It's funny, two years ago I had a trigger finger too..well two, right thumb & one of those do nothing fingers.
