Sunday In Christmas, Baptism of The Lord Mass

Today concludes the Season of Christmas as we encounter John and Jesus at the Jordan. There is in the baptism of Jesus a handing on of the preaching of the reign of God; John who prepared the people to receive Jesus through his preaching of repentance, and now Jesus through his proclamation of the Kingdom in the midst of the people who have waited
for so long. The smooth transition between John and Jesus cannot be lost on us as we move into a new era in our own nation. While no earthly leader can be construed as divine, we all wait anxiously and with hope in what new leadership will mean. The people of Israel waited with hope for the Messiah, and John today points him out to all who would believe. May we follow after Jesus in all we do in this New Year as we enter into Ordinary Time, filled with God’s Extraordinary Grace!
