I chose the title of my sermon a week ago thinking I would spend time talking about the common water John used to baptize Jesus in Luke 3:15-17, 21-22. That got away from me a bit - it seemed more important to talk about what baptism does for us. Reformed theology states baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality. What reality is that? God calls us by name - we belong to God - God is delighted in us.
So, whenever you wash your hands or use water this week, remember that and give thanks.
