Defo should have been abandoned second half had games called off for less than that in my local leagues. Senior team played on a dangerous pitch with 1 ref which was stupid then our ref called it off soon as he arrive because it was literally just sinking bog. Shocking decision

Unfortunately at this level the referees just want their money for the game. You can understand a referee doesn’t want to have to lug it back home after only playing the first half as he wants to be paid in full and not have to reschedule the fixture. Also even if they do get paid in full they still have to file a match report to explain why it got called off. Just a shame that grassroots leagues don’t pay referees double for calling games off like this with signature from both teams and photo evidence of the playing conditions

Game should of been called off at half time. Been a ref for 4 years and have called games off in lesser conditions due to player safety. No reason to be risking it in those conditions

At that point you’re asking palmers to build up a 5-goal lead knowing that they won’t get any chances in the second half because of the pitch, and that just makes zero fucking sense. And your wind argument is terrible, because both teams would get equally affected by wind and you can still play despite it. At least the ball would still roll normally when on the ground. I’ve played games where I was able to score against 30mph winds. Know why? We played on the ground. Wind and a pitch half waterlogged are not the same thing 🤷‍♂️

From a ref's point of view, nothing about the first half. Current condition is unplayable, won't get better anytime soon, risking an injury by carrying on. If someone's foot gets stuck in the mud and they twist the wrong way, you're gonna get all sorts of injuries. Should have been called after the hour mark.
