Keegan, the reason there are dense plantings of 'fir' trees is normally because farmers have put them in as shelter belts. They make excellent wind breaks and shelter from rain for livestock and are very common here in southern Australia. They were mostly put in by returned soldier settler farmers after WW2 when our government opened up cheap land for clearing to establish jobs and farms. As most of the farming practices here came from the UK, I'd say it's most likely the same reason you have them over there. I was born in Kent and left England as a child in 1980. I never got to see any of the country up north and am grateful for the content you guys create. It's a beautiful part of the world!

I have done that walk. Emily is my favourite. Branwell Brontë was the brother… he had a drinking problem and like them all died young. I love the moors. Reminds me of heathcliffe and Catherine from Wuthering Heights novel by Emily.

I would love to live in that little town! As long as there is good internet.

Very pretty. It looks like some parts of New England and Pennsylvania. If you ever get back to Pennsylvania you must check out the historical areas that were once owned by the British back in the early 1700s before we became the United States. Especially the town of New Hope and Washington's Crossing looks exactly like England with old Stone walls and stone houses and structures and rolling hills. You would definitely think you were in England. The British controlled Pennsylvania from 1681 to 1776.

Nothing like the north of England in winter. A bit desolate, empty, cold and breezy and walking your dogs the "Woodhouse" way. Certainly enjoyed my visits way to the north and into Scotland. Not sure I would want to live out there however. I need a Costco, and a good supermarket that sells good quality foods. I see two properties that could become the new "Hirstwood" estate. Just do it up. Does Amazon deliver that far out, can you get an Uber? Internet? Mobile connection?

Your walk gave me chills! Not because of the cold, but the location. I have a very special connection to the Brontés, albeit self-forged. Some time in the 1980s I watched for the first time the classic William Wyler film of Wuthering Heights with Olivier and Oberon. It instantly struck me that its society treated the relationship between Cathy and Heathcliff exactly as so many today treat gay relationships. Then I read the novel, again for the first time, and the similarities were only stronger. A rip-snorter of a book, BTW. How a retiring country girl came up with such raw emotional stuff is one of literature’s miracles. Anyway, I decided I’d write my own novel version. Born and raised in American cattle country, I set it in the modern day milieu I knew. Wrote it, finished it, then what should be a hit? Brokeback Mountain. So that was that for my book.

I have a half sister in England who's in her upper 70s she's a World War II child. She came to my farmhouse here in Pennsylvania with her boyfriend from Scotland years back and he thought this part of Pennsylvania looked exactly like Scotland and Northern England.

Chriscansdale6389 , you are brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing. It makes total sense. I have always Dreamed of visiting Australia. Is there a difference between Southern and Northern like there is in United States 🇺🇸. Blessings to you.
@peterphillips456611 ай бұрын
Vast difference between the north and south in Australia….the north is tropical with two season, the Wet and Dry season, the south is much cooler in Winter and hot in Summer with a dry heat, not the hot humid weather of the tropics…and just about any other climatic zone you can imagine in between…from snowy Alpine ares to hot dry deserts. Just make sure to allow plenty of time to see it. From where I live in Cairns (Far north of Queensland) to Melbourne down south is a 3 hour flight.
