Fun fact about this game: Jake Delhomme, who came in to throw one pass (albeit a crucial one), would get picked up by the Panthers the following year and take the Panthers to the Super Bowl.

So much nostalgia... that 1999-2003 Scorebug on ESPN, Sunday Night Football being on ESPN, astroturf, Mike Patrick, Paul Mcguire, and Joe Theismann... I always enjoyed closing out football Sundays with this trio. Sounded like listening to 3 of your uncles talking football with your dad. Mike Patrick's delayed ".... Touchdown!" call and Paul's ability to predict whether a spot would be short or enough for a first down.

Bucs won the Super Bowl in 2002 and yet could not defeat the Saints. The ‘95 Cowboys are another Super Bowl champ that got swept by a division rival (the Washington Redskins).
@Americalovesme2008
@Americalovesme2008 Жыл бұрын
Sometimes the biggest hurdle is that of one in your own division. The 95 Redskins seemed to have the Cowboys number and same with the Saints against the Bucs in 2002. Heck I know it wasn't a sweep but let's not forget how teams like 09 and 10 Jets gave the Patriots.

The kickoff return by the saints to about the 25 was pretty sweet visually the defense made a mistake of just converging into one blob of players on the field and then he just squirts out and keeps on running! I had to say something cuz it made me laugh.

Man this was fun. I used to love having SNF on ESPN. Especially during the early 2000's. It's funny, because when the initial yearly schedule would come out for SNF, a lot of the matches seemed boom or bust, while the MNF matches all seemed legit. But because every season is unpredictable, a lot of the ESPN matchups turned out good.

Lawd! 😩The Jim Hasslett Aaron Brooks Saints days. They always had the Bucs number. They swept the ‘02 Bucs season series. Crazy enough Super talented team, they can always beat playoff contending team but they couldn’t the sorry teams. I remember after this game, they loss to the winless bengals and needed one more win to go to the playoffs against the losing Panthers, guess what? They loss to Carolina at home and missed the playoffs.

Mike Patrick is so good. It’s a shame he hasn’t done any NFL games since 2006. I love Tirico, but idk why ESPN didn’t ever use him at all between 2006 and 2018 for MNF or the Week 1 MNF doubleheader game before he retired.
