years ago I used to maintain large industrial diesel and natural gas engines that would run 24/7 providing power to pumps or generators. being stationary, obviously the maintenance schedule was in hours. typically 1000 hours for oil changes and then 10,000 hours for other work to be done, and so on. also being built to an industrial standard rather than a consumer standard, those engines were a lot more robust

when I had my truck, CUMMINS recommended 500hr oil changes, equivalent to 25,000km hwy km. I used to change mine at 400hrs, which was about 5000km, it was a concrete mixer truck.

With all due respect to Anthony he is EXTREMELY knowledgeable BUT I 100% disagree with him on the k and n filters on these engines I find the clean side of the intake 100% stays cleaner with a ryco paper filter just my findings.. they don’t seem to let through that fine dust his showing in the video just my findings… you are a legend tho Anthony very knowledgeable guy I appreciate the videos 🍺

Another great video Ant I’ve got 2013 sr5 dual cab it’s done 250K and my egr was disconnected when the vehicle was new and remapped and my oil stays golden for about 8k the the last couple k it’s gets slightly dirty like that one it’s a very clean engine I believe it’s the egr not working plus when I change the oil as I did yesterday I run 2-3 litres of clean oil through at the end just to flush out most of the dirty oil that is sitting on thing in the engine trouble is when I top it up with new oil you have trouble seeing the oil on the stick because it’s so clean it’s got to be good though

I put a line of grease on the inside of my 1HZ air box lid to monitor any dust getting through, i only use paper filters and never seen any dust get through.

Believe it’s silicone based grease to help seal the rubber airfilter cap to the plastic air box

Multiple Precleaners rule when using an oil based cotton or foam ,, they easily block . Oiled filters migrate oil to the bottom of filter due to vibration ie the top dries out . In saying that the oil based filter system does work better in heavy dust especially for very small micron fine powder . Any dust inside air inlet tract is bad even if you only get the dirty finger ITS TO MUCH . Once u test engines that operate in dusty environment over 90% time even the dirty finger test is bad news . It shortens engine life every time . Rust particles from engine snorkels is also bad news . Use either coated or stainless snorkels . Dust very fine powder can still get past 2 stage Donaldson . Do all the prevention as prior mentioned . PLUS oil soaked filter between engine and main filter . This filter turned grey eventually . IT STOPPED ALL fine powder ,, how do we no this,, the entrance to engine inlet was exceptionally clean . GAINED AT LEAST 30% MORE ENGINE LIFE . DID i say the oil was cleaner YES

Start with the EGR, then do the DPF, EGR removal is pretty easy.

Aggressive diesel EGR systems absolutely hammer engine oil, especially during extended operation at lower speeds and/or short trips Add long oil service interval periods to keep bean counters happy and recipe for disaster: sludge, blocked oil pick ups and dead engines Mercedes got caught out bigtime in USA because of differing US (semi synethic) versus European (full synthetic) specs for oils sold under same name

I’m on my second D22 Navara, so far 500K , all up , I’m anal , oil change every 5K oil filter every 10k , no drama, except from required timing chain , , 2.5l d22 engines , are noted from there long life
