This week, we talk about Angels visiting the Shepherds at Jesus birth.
Read Luke 2:8-20
What do you think God looks like? We look at Luke 2 and see God revealing his glory to the world and it starts with the shepherds. Throughout scripture, men and women encounter God and in those moments the awesomeness of God instills fear and reverence. The angel says "Fear NOT, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." These shepherds are the first to hear of the Savior... the LORD... putting on flesh and dwelling among us. It is GOOD NEWS for ALL people... A savior who brings PEACE to those who call on him. A savior from our SIN and BROKENNESS!
Faith Challenge:
How would you draw God? A child in the manger... a Jewish man, an old man on a throne? God reveals or manifests himself (Theophanies) in different ways, but in the person of Jesus, we find the most approachable face. The face of a man like you and I, but yet Holy, perfect, and filled with love and grace. Consider how Jesus has made himself known to the world... take time to reach through one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John). The more we read His Word, the more clearly we see Him. As a family... try to draw a picture of God and give thanks for a loving Lord.
Also... Jesse Tree Family Activity Kits are here and ready for pick up. These are great tools to help point us back to Jesus, especially when life becomes distracting and confusing. Pick yours up today (daily devotions for Dec) and if you have questions, talk to DCE Ben.
May God bless you in your week ahead and hope to see you here at Messiah.
