We are experiencing an epidemic of anti-queer fear, hatred, and violence across the U.S. Oppressive rhetoric, attacks, and legislation have extended into every part of society, from schools to churches to media to the police to Congress. Why are conservatives so afraid of queerness? What does this fear reveal about the culture and systems they're fighting to maintain? Is this surge of violence truly an aberration? Or does it shed light on issues at the very core of American society?
