I'm thankful for my worship pastor. She gets all of our music a head of time and communicates new things to us early. I've experienced unorganized. it's not fun.

I don't know how you guys schedule people, but at my church we use this thing called planning center online. It's a super cool thing to have and I highly recommend it. It's just a way for you to schedule and put music I'm with attachments for the keys. Just a suggestion to help with the planning. :>

Brother I love your videos. They are so insightful! I would love for you to cover "How to conduct effective worship with unconventional instrumentation." Specifically at my church I lack in drummers and bass players. I would love to hear how you would overcome something like this (aside from multi-tracks - nothing against them we just have a smaller budget).

Hey worship tutorials! I believe in the power of prayer, and I was hoping you could pray for me. My name is Josh and I believe God is calling me to be a Pastor, and to lead a church body to become fully engaged followers of Christ. So I ask that you guys pray for this vision that I have, and that above all God has the final say!

Definitely interested in the structure of your worship team rehearsals. How long do you rehearse apart from Sunday walkthrough. How to build a rapport as the leader of a group of volunteers.

Hi! I have appreciated watching your tutorial videos and blogs and have found them very helpful as I mature as a worship leader. I was wondering if you have a video or if you could talk at some point about the differences between male and female keys. I am seldom able to sing in the same key as a male worship leader (especially if he is singing in the same key as the song is on the record)- I also worry that as a female worship leader, I am singing keys that are too low for the congregation. (For me, the ideal worship song range is C-C)

Solid vlog! Really appreciate the ending thoughts and the vlog has a purpose too! A few questions: Is the coffeehouse & youth in the same room? Do you have to set up twice? Also, what camera and lens are you using and is it the same as you use with your typical videos?
@worshiptutorials8 жыл бұрын
Thanks David! Yes the youth service and coffeehouse are in the same room. Youth is first (8:45). Then we set up the room a bit differently for coffeehouse (10:45). I'm using a Sony a7S ii. It is now the same camera that I use for other videos as well - I used to use blackmagic production 4k cameras and I've switched to Sony. Mostly so I can do these kinds of videos. For lenses, I have the Sony FE 16-35 f/4, Sony FE 24-70 f/4, and Sony FE 50mm f/1.8. I also have an a6300 as my 2nd camera, but I haven't used it on a Vlog video yet.

on your tutorial for oceans key of d can we use a capo on 2 and use the same chords because that's how I usually see it on hillsongs videos
@reignaropero3788 жыл бұрын
If you want to capo 2 I believe you would want play E chords. But that's only for the key of D. Here is a little explanation: If oceans was originally the key of C then I'm pretty sure you would capo 2 and play D chords and if you capo 4 would be playing E chords. Hope this helps :>

how many times do you guys practice the worship songs in a week and prepare for Sunday service? how do you balance all these things while filming videos and editing them? But thank you So much for what you do you are a great teacher!
@worshiptutorials8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We have one rehearsal during the week that usually last around 2.5 hours. Personally I spend maybe 1-2 hours per week outside of that rehearsal making sure I know the songs completely. Worship Tutorials is my full-time job, which allows me time to create all the video stuff. I lead worship every week for my church, but I don't spend the typical 40+ hours per week on it like our full-time worship staff do.

how about communication between worship team and the sound and audio visual crew
@Jay734258 жыл бұрын
I was so excited to not see a drum shield! Then I realized they were electronic drums...then I saw the shield around the acoustic set. I always hate seeing percussion instruments treated as noise makers rather than beautiful musical instruments. I enjoyed the content of the video though. Planning ahead can fix a lot of issues that plague most church bands.
@worshiptutorials8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Trust me we push those drums loud :). We just isolate them so they don't bleed into other instruments and vocals on stage - it's all about serving the room and the sound you're going for. But the stage noise from the drums would be totally lost in comparison to what's coming out of the mains - it's all about keeping them out of vocal microphones, etc.
@Jay734258 жыл бұрын
I hope you don't feel like I'm attacking you, but I've been looking for someone to answer this question for me and can't get a straight answer. What's wrong with some of the drums coming through the vocal mics? If you mix it correctly, setting a gate appropriately on the vocal mics will eliminate most of the bleed. You have to mic the kit anyway because of the shield, why not utilize the bleed that does occur and not push the drum mics as much? Add to that proper placement of instruments on the stage will help. (Don't put the lead vocal right in front of the drums on a riser, for instance.) Even with less than ideal placement, watch The Tonight show and you'll see the lead vocalist right next to, and actually lower than, the drum kit. I've also seen Casting Crowns play in a church not much bigger than yours with the drum set on a riser 8 feet behind the lead singer. The music all comes out the same speakers, so what difference does it matter what mic it goes into? I know each line is EQed and processed differently, but that can all be corrected with the mics from the drums. If not, then I feel you're processing the vocals too much anyway. My final point (thanks for sticking with me this far) is the drums will sound much better if you use proper heads, sticks, cymbals and technique instead of depending on a drum shield. I play drums in an old, stone church that's acoustically designed for a choir and organ. My heads are designed to limit the resonance (Evans Hydraulics and EC2s), I use a thin 5A stick, and I turn up the drums on my in-ears so if I play too loud, it hurts my ears. I've never been told I'm too loud, and in fact, when someone else plays my drums I can't hear the toms. We really should mic the kit and our stage is about 12'x20'. But then again, I've been trained on percussion instruments since 6th Grade and piano since 1st. I understand how to make drums musical and I know their place in worship music: pretty much the bottom of the list. If you're recording a Live Album that you want to be able to edit later and pull a drum fill from this service and splice it with the vocal riff from that service, then I agree that a drum shield is necessary. However, if you're only micing to reinforce it through the PAs or an online feed for another location, then I fail to see how a drum shield is nothing more than a crutch for bad sound techs and bad drummers? Again, I'm not meaning to attack you if it comes across that way. I've just never heard a band using a drum shield that sounded good. I bet if you keep the mics, remove the shield, change the heads/sticks and coach the drummer on proper dynamics the music will sound better to the congregation.
@reignaropero3788 жыл бұрын
I agree with your points (I'm no drummer) but I think if you are on a 12x20 stage or smaller and have monitors in front of the vocals with the shield off and mics for the drums then there maybe some feedback. I'm not 100% sure of this but it's my logical conclusion to this. :>
@Jay734258 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I should clarify. We recently got Avioms, so thankfully no more wedges which is wonderful, and we only use the mics on the drums for monitoring purposes. (Like I said, I turn the drums up on my in-ears to keep from playing too loud. If the sound tech says I'm playing too loud, I turn up the drum channels so I'm forced to play softer.) We don't have a drum shield and realistically should put some of the drums through the mains since the toms are hard to hear. My point is proper head and stick selection, tuning and technique will produce a better, cleaner sound than a drum shield. And as a bonus, will probably be cheaper!
@reignaropero3788 жыл бұрын
That is true. At main stage at my church, the drums don't have a shield which is like you said better sound quality. So maybe the other big churches will do the same :p

In our church we have started a youth worship team and i play keyboard so its nice to see how we can improve
@reignaropero3788 жыл бұрын
My youth band actually recently started a new band and I would say for starters have a get together somewhere and get go know each other and know what you guys play. Then start off with easy songs and easy keys. Even though some people will be more advanced it would be better to take baby steps then all fall apart during the service. :>
