Pompey have definitely improved from our earlier meeting in the season. Sunderland were not at their best today and had to work right until the end for the points through not taking our chances. Fair play to you making the long journey up here. I think Sunderland have done well over the Christmas period considering how many injuries we have, I feared it might catch up with us yesterday, but we battled and had enough quality to win the game. I thought Portsmouth faired well, one of the better, more organised sides we've seen at the SoL this season. It should give you confidence that you can get out of the mess and achieve survival. Great work Tom and co. I watched the game at 2 in the morning from Sydney and agree that Tyler was immense and deserved more than a 6 from Jordan Cross. Also very excited at the stature and quality of Atkinson. Some amazing diagonal long balls from Pack and his sending off was a function of having a ball-playing midfielder at centre half. Shame front 3 went missing else we could have taken a point. Gutsy showing all round.

Hope you are all back home in the warmth after your visit to the stadium .The game was well contested and both teams played their parts trying to keep both set of supporters entertainment on a bitterly wet and cold Sunday afternoon. The pace of Mayenda and Isidor always looked a threat to Pompey but equally the pairing of Murphy and Bishop was causing us plenty worries.But it was former pairing who broke the deadlock and that was worthy enough for all three points on the day. Hi Tom. Great video yet again. You and all Pompey fans were a credit to the club yet again on a freezing day up north especially on a Sunday. Pack was at fault for the goal alongside our keeper in some ways as I thought he shouldn't have been so far off his line but the team didn't go under. Silly Red card for Marlon too. I stood next to PFC Westwood at Charlton Athletic in the 90s. It wasn't fun. Love his passion but... Pompey only losing 1-0 away at Sunderland and still out of the relegation zone. I'll take that. A good performance despite the defeat. It's another tricky away fixture done with, and there'll be lessons learnt from this too. Atkinson looked decent when he came on, so it's by no means just negatives to take from the game. The question now is, how much effort should be put into the cup game at Wycombe, especially with the tight fixture list coming up?

It was actually a good performance. Bounced back well from the early goal - which was a silly one again. Murphs and Colby both had golden chances. Lack of confidence is the only reason we didn't take at least one point from that game. We had more opportunities than they did and never looked like taking one, and that's what lack of confidence does. If no one on the team thinks you can take away a point, you don't! It's all that's missing now. The confidence should be coming from the captain, but he's struggling. Bishop knew he should have put away a couple of the chances he had and Lang wasn't on it either, nor Murphy. A great shame, 'cos a point was there for the taking and what turns that around? What breaks the pattern? On to Blackburn...

We lose away at Sunderland, if we didn't give away that sloppy goal, if Pack didn't get sent off and if we were more clinical we may have got something from today's game, better performance but frustrating result, PUP. 🔹️🔷️🔵💙 #Pompey

We (Sunderland) we pretty average today. We have 9/10 players out Currently injured and it showed today. We are physically and mentally exhausted

Before the match started I was thinking that the best result we could get would be 0-1. So at the end of the day we survived to lose by the single goal...so goal difference not really affected. It was SO disappointing to see us tamely surrender the ball so quickly after getting possession. It happened time and time again, putting pressure on the defence. Thank goodness Sunderland were as crap at finishing as we were at finding another Pompey player when playing the ball out of defence. Because of poor finishing by Sunderland we were still in the game up until the final whistle...but NEVER looked like scoring. When playing away, the opposition always attacks in force and we seem unable to compete, whereas at home with teams being more defensive, and the Fratton crowd our twelth man, inspiring players to perhaps over-achieve, we are a completely different side. Thats why I think we will ONLY stay up if we get enough points at home to counter all the away defeats. We should be looking to get away points from all those teams around us in the relegation mire. Unfortunately the games at Plymouth, Cardiff, Stoke and Hull have all been disasters. With Blackburn next up, dont expect any miracles. We just dont have the players in the squad to do that. I'm pinning my faith on the Fratton Park faithful to keep our heads above water.!!!
