Vidor is STILL a sundown town pleaseeee don’t believe that things have changed. I recently had to stop at a gas station when I was headed to visit my family in Louisiana. Trust me I didn’t want to stop but my dog had to use the bathroom. At the gas station there was a truck with a couple of white men and they were hurling racist insults at me and my dog. I remember a black family tried to move to Vidor, TX, in the early 2000s. The husband had gotten a job in the Houston area. However, the housing at the time was coming off the Hurricane Katrina situation." "To say they had to deal with racists and racism would be an understatement. The family's suv had its tires slashed and had "N I G ***" plastered on the windshields of the family SUV." "His work truck was stolen, and the family house randomly had it's windows busted out while they were at work and school. His truck was later found on a back road on blocks." The family went from being interviewed on the news about moving to Vidor, TX, to moving completely out of Texas." " I was a sophomore in high school when this happened. I remember it vividly. I stopped at roadside cafe in Vidor about 5 years ago. The folks looked hard as I walked in and sit down, but they served me just as any other customer and there was no fuss. When I left the cafe and entered the freeway I was stopped immediately by DPS officers. I was made to get out of the truck, questioned about where I was coming from and where I was going. He said he stopped me because my license plate holder covered up part of TEXAS and wrote me a warning. I haven't stopped there for any reason since.

There are black people working at the Taco Bell, Sonic, convenience stores, pharmacy, etc. and YES they are working at night time. Nobody is trying to k .ill black people in Vidor in the present day. The racist crap absolutely DID exist as far back as fifty to 60 years ago. Most of the racist people have died off. The times and attitudes changed a minimum of over 20 years ago. Stop allowing the past and other people's attitudes to define who you are and how you feel about yourself and your community. If your always looking in the rear view mirror, you cannot move into the future. Stop living in the past, stop allowing other people to move out of the past and better themselves and move forward so you and the nation can try to heal.

I had an interesting experience in vidor ,Tx… about 20 years ago I was moving from Ft .Bragg( now FT Liberty) to San Antonio ,Tx. I was changing duty stations in the Army. I’ve never been out of the Carolinas on my own as an adult.I was traveling in my pickup truck towing a small U-Haul trailer… just crossed the border of LA and Tx, a few miles in I caught a flat tire in Vidor. As a young black man I didn’t know anything about this town . I literally stopped on the bridge and walked across to an auto shop. They were open and not busy. I asked if there was anyone available to help me change a tire. I had no tools , and my jack wouldn’t work because I had larger rims on my truck. The guy said he could not help me because they were busy. NO ONE IS IN THE SHOP! I didn’t think anything of it, so I asked if I could just pay to use some tools. I was literally walking distance from their shop and you could see my flat tire. He said no they don’t loan tools out🤷🏾. Still not thinking anything of it, I walked a few miles to the auto parts store to buy some tools. I was able to buy a set of sockets but was unable to buy a jack. Ironically they were sold out.At the time I was a young soldier in the Army and knew nothing about an emergency fund or AAA lol. So I made it back to the truck and of course couldn’t change the tire. I didn’t have enough sense to call my insurance company to get help. So I walked back to the auto shop and asked could they call me tow truck. Still wondering why I couldn’t get help there, guy finally calls a tow truck. Tow truck comes , literally takes me to the next exit…… puts my tire on… charges me $200! WTF 😮 Thankfully I had a credit card 🙏🏾So I make it to San Antonio and a year later I was telling this story to my wife’s Godfather. And that’s when I got the history of Vidor. 😮 lucky for me I broke down in the morning, Lord knows what would have happened at night. Never knew of places like this until that day and started doing my own research. I still till this day will not stop nowhere near Vidor. Good luck changing the perception of that city. I have seen stories online recently from truck drivers delivering there… they get loaded/unloaded quickly to let them get out before it gets dark….Like others are saying, Vidor needs money in their city! So now we’re welcome to go/stop there 💰 💰💰😏. I just thank God I made it out safe 🙏🏾

I live in Beaumont Tx right across the river from Vidor, we use to fish in Rose City and there was a sign saying "N" Don't Let The Sun Set On You and there was a dummy hanging from a tree when I saw that it was over for me after that, my dad laughed he said that was has been there for years, I was ready to go I wrapped my pole and set in the car the rest of the day, after that when we would go fishing I'd ask where we were going if they said over much as I love to fish I never went there again. I'm 62 now and when I pass there on I-10 it gives me goose pimples. 😨

The same thing can be said about the self segregated community all across America but the MSM does not say anything about that. The double standard is real and needs to stop. If something is good for 1 then it is good for all.

Nope. No way. When I moved to Houston some 30 years ago, one of the first things I heard was never ever stop in Vidor because it is quite possibly the most racist town in Texas & maybe the entire nation. I make sure to never stop in Vidor for anything when traveling. I'm so sorry for that little boy & his illness but it's all BS about the town being friendly & open to people of color.
