This background music makes me feel like I wanna go do a shit ton of mushrooms then go watch Circus Olay in Vegas, Lol. Killer beat though. Such a great showcase of the detail that people put into their box designs. Awesome video dude!

Robb A yeah I could have put a more mainstream track on it, but it goes well with the task of drilling etc!

This enclosure drives wildlife crazy. Ive never seen so many animals running for their lives like the parting of the 7 seas. Birds, deer, squirrels, rabbits etc. you literally see the road ahead clearing on country lanes, unbelievable power of the u series in a well designed box
@Mkvy4 жыл бұрын
Just to advise , I used titebond 3 for all panels and just a bead of hard setting gripfill adhesive on the inner edges. I don’t normally. But the cuts were not perfect. It’s my enclosure and my work so I don’t need to be told it’s not precessional. I know it’s not recommended to use any filler inside the box. Fortunately it’s a free country compared to many in the world

very nice box, rare to see a 6th order bass reflex, would've been cool to see acrylic side panel even, nice job on the construction
@sethh88925 жыл бұрын
If you think 6th order bandpass enclosures are rare then you havent been looking. It's only rare to find 6th order bandpass enclosure is that are in series. It's also not necessary to say bass reflex after saying 6 order. It's kind of redundant being as though 2 bass reflex enclosures are used to make a 6th order.
@UniCrafter5 жыл бұрын
@@sethh8892 there are 2 types of 6th orders, 6th order bandpasses (very common in car audio), and 6th order bass reflex, of which this is one of about 3 total I've ever seen. I've seen maybe 100 6th order bandpasses, and have built 2 myself. By saying bass reflex I mean its like a ported box with another chamber on the back of the drier, instead of a standard 6th order which would have another chamber on the front of the driver.
@bjones84585 жыл бұрын
Series tuned 6th order. Just rare because it's harder to tune properly.. idk why ppl are just saying bass reflex and bandpass box.. this is a series tuned 6th order. The more common being parallel tuned 6th order which is easier to build because your essentially just putting a a sub between 2 ported boxes vs alot more calculation with a series tuned 6th. Both are bandpass boxes..

am I missing something here? where do the subs mount, didn't see any cut outs?
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
Bryce Lawmaster the cutouts are on the same side as the central vent , each sub is mounted either side of the vent

It’s amazing, do you know that wood glue seeps into the porous mdf and sets giving it strength more than any screw can give?

All negative comments will be deleted I am not interested in negative hatred. There are enough bad things. You are kindly requested to leave via the exit. This is just a speaker box. Not worth complaining in the comments, I will delete.

Which Speaker is better: 1.- The "Front sound" without obstacles and the "Back sound" runs through a maze to reach the Speaker's exit. 2.- The "Front sound" runs through a maze to reach the Speaker's exit, and the "Back sound" comes out through a "simple tube" thanks

Wait, all that great woodwork and close it all up with drywall screws, nice 👍 lol
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
all screws are removed after the glue sets. When he glue sets the screws have no use. They can be used on the next build. Wood glue is stronger than the wood. The first thing to fail is the wood. Not the glued joins

I know but that’s the joy of noise that’s got no commercial copyright. Teams of copyright music match are scouring everyone’s videos to take their revenue away just because a video may have a short background section of their music. Most of videos will be either muted or have background noise from now on

@@Mkvy ok that makes more sense, ever thought about investing in fi? very good quality subs I have a 2018 civic with 2 u 12s but before that I had a sp4+ 15 in a pretty big box and it was super good, going to put a bigger port in it and meter it as I will put my u12s in a crx within the year probably, hoping to hit 160 in crx but we'll see haha likely doing 148ish in the civic, fi has a q series which is very good sq used to have them awhile ago, very clean bass, I would venture to say fi is best quality(longest wait time) then probably dd and sundown but just my opinions with the many subs Ive had lol
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
The u12s are seriously heavy subs, my suspension drops each time i drop one of them in the box. The box and subs are impossible for one person to pick up, so install in the trunk and tilt the box in. Im not a numbers person SPL. Just i like music, have fun with your projects
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
The u series are a more SQ orientated sub compared to the x series. Just look at the response in a 4th order 2.5 cu ft box. The u series has no dip in the upper bass notes . The x series has more of a peak in low end. Therefore the u series is easier to design an SQ alignment
@daytrace46355 жыл бұрын
@@Mkvy sq is more of a low extension rather than upper, yes xs tend to hiccup on higher notes and have a lower fs but u's dont have the same motor force and have way higher fs granted you could build a naturally flat box and I would think u would sound better untill you get to about 25 hz and below which is really just the bottom of the bass shelf anyways before its just moving air and not really audible, seems like u's are versatile in their tuning, so in a way I agree with you

the use of complex subwoofer enclosure topology is negated by todays modern DSP technology. you could easily do a single 18" driver on same power same enclosure size simpler box design and a little eq function from a (plug and play) dsp unit, save money and pain and get same acoustical results. I like Pete at Audio Dynamics, he is a genius for sure, but I am not convinced his complex enclosure designs are that beneficial these days. you need dsp to time delay the mids and highs to compensate for the group delay introduced by the complex enclosure design anyway.
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
if only i could fit an 18 into my trunk
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
The more plugins in the chain needed to improve sound the worse the sound. The founder of pro audio speaker maker Funktion one has lots of lectures about this
@justingillette82875 жыл бұрын
The foot print of that box you built would allow an 18” driver you only need like 8 cubes for many great 18” driver units. True cascading filters in the signal chain is not a good idea you are correct and function one knows their stuff, but that sub enclosure is doing the same thing only it’s a passive filter as supposed to active you can fine tune
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
Justin Gillette unfortunately the net volume of the box is 4.88 cu ft. That’s the max limit. I was thinking of a single zv5 15 in a future build though . The only way would be sub facing up , port facing rear , a wide letterbox about 2x36 inches wide with the amp located above the slot port. That way the cables can be clear of the port
@justingillette82875 жыл бұрын
Well honestly I don't know the dimensions of the box. I apologize for assuming the box size. When you say net volume of the box what is the gross volume if you dropped an 18" sub in a box built to the external dimensions available with a simple slot port you would gain a lot of internal volume. I think you are on the right track keep up the good work!!!

Yeah you are right! The shop cut some panels at a slight angle. But I decided to use gripfill to fill the error. Not to worry the sound is amazing . Normally I run just a bead of wood glue
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
Basically the final top panel was installed and upon internal inspection with a GoPro I noticed the slight gaps caused by an angled cut on the internal wave guides. I filled them in with a super hard non alcohol based grip fill. I decided to run a small line of gripfill in all seems even though they did not need it. Just to be double sure. And wiped all excess filler with a wet cloth. After testing with a Dayton tone sweep the result was as predicted by Pete

Mdf its tooo heavy and has lower properties than plywood. Why use mdf? And you use tooo many screws. You dont need clamps anymore
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
I used mdf because it’s readily available where I live, but agreed it would be lighter and maybe sound different but harder to work with
@Mkvy5 жыл бұрын
Every screw was 4 inch spacing. I clamped the corners just to make sure they would set the corners good.

The birch board does sound better but it's double the price of MDF and nearly as heavy.
