Sunken Cemetery-- is a cross stands guard over the cemetery that sank beneath the ocean during the eruption of Vulcan Daan. Remnants of the structures and gravestones were still seen during low tide but the fourth eruption in 1948 buried the area deeper by around 20 feet. In 1982, a large cross was built on the solidified lava to mark this old gravesite. it is also seen in the movie QUIJA...

The water is shallow in the afternoon, but it can rise higher as twilight approaches. It is best to arrive at the Sunken Cemetery around after lunch as more natural light will emphasize one’s visit to the cemetery, and the water level is ideal, not too high to be unsafe returning on shore.

Curious can you see names who are buried there? My relatives 140 years ago might be buried there.
