I know what you mean when you say you want to experience more. Back in 2018 I decided to move to California BUT I didn't have everything you have. I was doing it alone! I found a job (under-paid nanny) but I didn't know where I was going to live. I packed up my car as much as I could, I probably only had $1,000 to be honest. My parents didn't want me to go but they didn't tell me not to. They supported me and one thing my dad mentioned was that it'll be good for me and home will always be there (Chicago), I could always go back. I lived in Airbnb's, week to week for about a month, then just slept in my car for about 3 months until I found a place. I would never change a thing, it has been the most amazing thing for me and my life.

I’m so glad that you guys stuck with your decision despite some of your families reservations. It makes it so much harder when it feels like you’re letting people down. I left my home state after 22 years and it was so hard but so worth it 😊

I agree! I still have family asking when I'm moving back "home" after 6 years. I met my husband here, got to live in the mountains and explore many parts of the country I would never have if I didn't take the plunge! I love my life and I'm only a 4 hour flight away from my childhood home/family. I am home here and some members of my family still do not accept I am not going back permanently nor did they accept me getting married away from "home" but I am way happier here than I was ever there. 🦋

I live in Southern California. One hour from the beach, Disneyland and the mountains (where it snows) and 3 hours from Vegas & San Diego. We recently drove to Tennessee and the drive through New Mexico & parts of Arizona were amazingly beautiful. I can't wait to find out which part of California you guys are moving to. I'll say this i moved alone from California to Alaska at age 17, i set my roots her and I did it all by myself!!!!! Big deal for me now i am 36 a mama of 5 boys and a family. Of all the lessons I have learned its that questioning your own self is 100% a good thing. At the end of the day you guys ultimately have to decide what feels right and good for you and your fam and while having the support and love of your family and loved ones is so important deep down you know they will have your back as that's family. Doesn't make it easier sometimes but life is and can be hard i feel like you guys Re covering all the important things and doing a great job. I’ve never moved that far so not sure how feasible this actually is but maybe instead of paying movers, just plan to sell your big furniture and buy new stuff when you get there or to be delivered once you get there. And then just package up your “smaller” stuff and ship the boxes. Might not be much cheaper but could be another option!

I’m so excited to see your new part of your life in California! I’ve always a part of me have wanted to move to Hawaii because I really want a slow pace enjoy every moment happy life even though I know every day is not like that I lived in Saint Pete Beach Florida for 17 years and literally it’s a tourist town in Florida on the West Coast and I literally lived for 17 years or everyone vacations and I grew up there so moving back to Chicago was hard it was easy in the sense my family lives here but I stopped really seeing family and being with family is great and I will always be grateful to them however there’s also the family that you choose not just the family you’re born into the family I choose was my friends that I grew up with I was eight when we moved and almost 25 when I came back I was already grown everything I learned I learned in Florida. I don’t see myself in Chicago long-term at all in fact I see myself moving out of the state of Illinois in the next five years which really it still breaks my heart because I can see myself living here and raising a family and growing old with my husband and having grandkids but this city is not what it used to be I don’t also see myself back in Florida which breaks my heart again. I think as you get older and you lose loved ones. I lost my mom six years ago and my grandma just six months ago and I lived with both of them so I’m 30 years old on my own for the first time and I’ve isolated myself from my entire family trying to make it and trying to figure things out and it’s hard. But I feel like I have to do this I have to figure this out on my own. I was never given the right tools or the right time to grieve the death of my mom because I had to hurry up and pack and move into a smaller condo and I tried it on my own for a couple months in Florida by myself and I got real sick with pneumonia in the hospital and my family at that point kind of just took over and told me I was moving up north and I moved back in with my grandma which I know it’s probably not what she wanted but I am grateful for those last 5 1/2 years I had with her but I feel like the only reason I moved back up here was because of her, I’m a homeowner now so I have to think more seriously I can’t just get up and move so I’m gonna just stay put like I said five-year plan but I definitely have to figure things out because I don’t wanna be here much longer. I left Chicago at seven years old seeing how big the city was and how much love I had for it and I feel like since I moved back and I’m older and I’m wiser and I understand more now than I did when I was a kid the city isn’t so majestic and exciting to me as it used to be. It’s sad but I don’t know where I’ll end up but I know wherever it is will be on my terms and my decision 100% whole heartedly.
