My theory is that Sun and Moon were originally built for the Theater. Sun was the Comedy, and Moon was the Tragedy, though they were repurposed, and slightly reprogrammed, for the daycare. Sun entertained the kids during the day, and Moon took care of and protected the kids during the night, until Vanny hacked and cranked you both up to 11, making sun louder and more easily excitable, and a bit more strict too, though moon’s change in personality was much more noticeable. Obviously, by now you two were seperated into different bodies, and Vanny’s hack was removed (hopefully), but judging from some of the things Moon has said in some of these videos, he is still a little bit affected

ALRIGHT- heres what i think: Sun & moon were built to be one animatronic with an AI when the lights were on yet when the lights were off they'd switch. Sundrop being the animatronic when the lights were on, was very playful happy and from my experience loves glitter glue. Yet Moondrop being the animatronic when the lights were off was very calming & gentle. Sun handled the kids during the day, but when kids stayed the night moon would put them to bed..... and yes they wake up in the morning >:( though they both... did not enjoy rulebreakers much... Moon would punish them, and sun would literally BAN them ( as seen with gregory...). everything was doing fine untill a man named William Afton had a new... worker. Although the pizzaplex had no idea about this or that the 'worker' was their very own security guard Vannessa or Vanny. Vanny hacked the glamrocks and Moondrop to bring her any child sneaking around the pizzaplex past closing so Vanny could kill them for afton to come back. Sun did not know untill it had been to late but before hand Moon would faze in and out yet, he tried to overpower the corruption, though, sadly, he still became corrupted. Yet Moon had already hurt and attacked a child. This lead to the closing of the daycare for a very long time... nobody came to fix Moon, and Sun was.... well, he couldn't handle being without children so Sun started cleaning everything and became what I'd call 'insane' (not really though). Although, one day Sun couldn't take it any longer and was crying in his & Moons room when he heard someone go down the entrance slide. It was the first child Sun had seen in what felt like years. It was gregory. Sun couldn't let Moon hurt this child, so a new rule was made. Keep. The lights. ON. Welp thats all I have for now ( might add more later?) but tbh out of everything FNaF Sun & Moon are my favorite yet it makes me sad that they are so underated....

Both of your bodies were most likely infused with remnant at some point, causing you two to be aware. The children had often stayed up too late, so they created Moon to help the children sleep, but he ended up giving them nightmares, as the in-game message, Night Terrors, states, “My son never had sleeping problems. But after spending an evening in the daycare, he refuses to sleep with the lights out anymore! He just cries and cries. And then when I do keep the lights on, he wets the bed!” So yes, Sun is the perfect candidate for a daycare attendant; Playful, Cheerful. But, in the end, when the light goes out, the perfect daycare attendant turns into the creepy, strange, bloodthirsty for children past their bedtime animatronic, Moon. And their children guests don’t end up getting a good-night sleep, and most likely have nightmares for the majority of their lives after that. This is only for what you see in game, not for the whole separation and stuff.

ok first, I think Sun needs a hug, he seems upset (hugs Sun) I hope you feel better Sunny second, you said we can try to say what your origin story is, well I know that you two were not flesh and bone, that was only the first game, because of the 5 children who got stuffed in Freddy, Foxy, Chica, Bonnie, and Golden Freddy, and I have no idea why people say the other ones are possessed by kids as well when there is no proof, I think the Puppet, possibly Charlie, helped posses them so they can kill anything in purple, but you two as well as the Glamrocks, your AI was made to have your own personalities to make you seem more "human" so the one who designed you both wanted you to change from day and night, like some daycares have a naptime, Sun, you are for when the children play and have fun, while you Moon were desighned to possibly read stories to the children and sing songs to help the kids sleep. Moon you weren't always bad, I know, because that wasn't your original AI. Vanessa aka "Vanny" or what people say is her, hacked the glamrocks to gain the trust of the kids, as we know, Vanny is under control of Afton. No idea why Glamrock Freddy wasn't hacked but she probably didn't get to him yet at the time, but Moon, you were the one who was hacked, and Sun, since you work with children and its basically your job to take care of them, and includes keeping them safe, it was possibly hard to hack your AI. Moon on the other hand, some people say "sleeping forever" is-..you know what, in other words, and as the lights go off, you go crazy and be what you are now, a bit hostile. what I'm thinking is that an accident happened, basically Moon hurt a child, and kids became afraid of him, thus didn't want to go back to the daycare, so Sun, you made one rule being "don't turn the lights off" just to keep the children safe from being hurt or worse. sorry if that was so long- I had a lot to say, also you two have a nice day, Moon don't get into any trouble ok? love you both

Sun was a little baby animatronic.. his mom was caring and sweet. As he grew up she started to get more sweet. When he was an adult he went to a pizzaplex and worked at the daycare. That’s when moondrop was born. Then sun turned back on the lights. While vanny was hacking moondrop. Making him evil. Gladly kids kept the lights on. When another kid came he went behind sun and somehow got him to fall asleep. While he was asleep the kid messed up sun’s system. Making sun not able to open his mouth. Then the kid turned the lights off and poured more moon sand on sun. Turning moon’s eyes glowing red. And the kid dressed up moon to look like someone who likes to sleep. Then the kid messed up moon’s system as moon was still asleep. He was dreaming of something. The kid left. Then sun opened his eyes. PART 2 IS OUT!!! Sun asked what had happened and heard a voice say “you turn into a moon in the dark” Sun didn’t want to have this curse so he made sure the lights stayed on. He wanted to know why his curse had happened. A voice said “There is no cure” Sun was scared so he made his number one rule “keep the lights on”. PART 3 IS OUT!!!! Sun was having fun until a kid named “Gregory” came. He made a mess and turned off the lights. Then sun banned him from the daycare. While sun was having fun something happened. PART 4 IS OUT!!! A pngtuber named jellybean came. They gave sun a jellybean. Sun ate the jellybean. He was turning into a purple demon.. he was turning into a part of the jellybean pfp army.. and all sun would be able to say was “it’s not a mistake, it’s a masterpiece” 200 SUBS ON MY CHANNEL FOR PART 5!!

I have a theory on the backstory! Sun&moon were created to assist children. Sun helped them learn and develop while moon helped kids who struggled to sleep. However the kindergarten they worled at was closed so they were sold to a pizzeria. Sun thought is was great but moon didn't. After a month of mistreatment from staff and angsty teen they bwcame stricter. Moreover moon's job was ensuring safe sleep! However he cannot do that one jon in a place where no one is sleeping. That feeling of being useless made him depressed and angry hence: he is here today!😢😢

I feel like the origin is Moon used to care for the kids so much, never scared them but one day when he was corrupted by Glitchtrap or Vanny, he hurt a child who wouldn’t sleep and they closed down the daycare for awhile. Then when Sun was crying in his room and he heard someone open the door and he saw Gregory, he decided to make a rule to keep the lights on at all times.

There used to be way more of you. There was a animatronic to wash, another to dry, even some for the mentally handicapped or the ones with trauma. Stardrop was for the kids who were mentally handicapped. Raindrop and Stormdrop were for washing and drying. Rainbowdrop was for the kids with trauma. But, the day after Moon was fixed from his hack, they checked all the others code, It was found that Stardrop had some sort of robot ADHD and she couldn't defend from hacks, they had to disable her. The others were found useless not long after. After that, all that were left were Moondrop and Sundrop Edit:There was also Eclipsedrop but he was basicly a more psycotic Moon.

They were built for the daycare with the new future technology, they were both one animatronic. Sunrise would play with the kids and always would be fun loving, and moondrop will put the kids to bed

My friend has a fanfic where you two separate into two bodies, and you can switch physically into each other. Because your two separate bodies were made from the same Endoskeleton. So I think you can switch physically into eachother, but keep control. (In the fic, you play a game of "which one is the real Sun/Moon" for the daycare kids. They love it)

New to the series, and the origin thing may have been covered in the show by now, but I still want to share my version. Freddy's was trying to find people to build new robots for them, and the contract for the daycare attendant bot was won by a pair of genius, fresh out of college twin girls. Much like Sun and Moon one was dark and moody and the other cheerful and bright. The dark gothic-y one was reserved and hated interacting w/ ppl, so people often thought she was depressed, but this was a far cry from the truth. She was actually very happy in who she was and her life, and she wanted young kids to feel encouraged and happy about themselves, too. So she created Sun as a playful, uplifting companion for them. The more girly-girl twin was actually really into the occult, and believed in the power of motivating kids thru fear. Clearly she made Moon. Then Fazbear's decided they only wanted to pay for one robot. The twins argued for a bit before saying, 'Screw it! We'll just take our two designs and put them into one robot. Two completely distinct and separate AIs in one robo body. And if that's impractical, well then, we already got the check.' I should also note, Moon's mom was a bit of the spontaneous/nuts in an irresponsible fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants-and-damn-the-consequences way. And well, it wasn't until after Sun and Moon had been delivered that she realized she hadn't checked to make sure his anti-virus software had been properly updated.
