I am surprised there are no homeless along that river.

There is in some places typically. Some years ago there were large camps right along the trail in Anaheim but they were cleared out. Often when the river is low (most of the time) you see some down in the riverbed underneath the overpasses.

They started at the part that is nearly in Anaheim Hills already. Further down the road, towards Angel Stadium, there are definitely lots of homeless encampments.

We did this trail a few years ago. Stayed at Orangeland RV Park. Rode from there to trail,headed west to Huntington Beach, then north to Seal Beach. Hit a fun Beach Taco Hut along the way for fish tacos and margaritas. Then headed south and rode to Newport Beach pier,before heading back to our base camp. It was a blast.
