You know, imagine that Twilight actually returned to the series this way. Apathetic from having lived too long, a careless and super powerful villain who screws with Equestria because she's become detached from it and it might be in the way of things she wants. I can totally see this happen tho.... Imagine this, Twilight becoming an immortal alicorn having to watch her friends slowly die one by one and in the end she's the only one standing. When I saw Twilight in the trailer, I felt tears in my eyes. She was not my favorite character, but her appearance, even in the form of the Tree of Harmony, touched me very much. It is unlikely that she will be a full-fledged character in G5, but apparently the public's interest in MLP has weakened so much that Twilight had to be returned.

You try to do good but you don’t see any progress being made as villain takes place of the other villain you already defeated again and again and again. After a while the endless cat-and-mouse game just gets boring and you slowly start losing passion and energy to keep the fight going. The only way to successfully get rid of the problem that is evil is to somehow fill in the power vacuum with good, and that is a hard situation to deal with. Either that or make sure that no one can fill the vacuum which is also pretty hard to accomplish. Usually this requires multiple people to do, and the support of the establishment such as the Equestrian government.
