Sunrail Construction: Deland Expansion October/November 2023 Update

This Sunrail construction update looks at the progress on the Deland Expansion in October and November 2023. Sunrail's Deland expansion is the third and final phase of Sunrail's original plan, expanding north over 12 miles from Debary to a new station in Deland. Over the next year or so, I'll be providing occasional updates on the track and station construction.

DeLand is my home station and I'm so happy they're keeping the original stuff around. That platform and station building has such an awesome vibe and sometimes I would go sit at that station and see the silver star or even look at stars. It's lovely and classic

I wonder if the City of Deland ever plans to run a trolley bus service from downtown Deland to the new Sunrail station like Sanford does with their station. Even better if they're somehow able to repurpose that spur line that goes from the Amtrak station that almost reaches Stetson University, for a proper rail trolley. One can dream...

At Deland Station, will Sunrail trains and Amtrak trains stop on the same track or will there be another track built to the other side of the Sunrail platform?

There will be a second track added that will dead end at the platform. Sunrail will be able to use either track but Amtrak will only be able to use the existing east track.

The underpass existing segments seemed in good shape, did they say why they were replacing it? Just to have all the pieces the same age for a little excess work, or to make things line up better?

That side will be the second mainline when the project is finished. The shoo fly was just needed so they could complete all of the underpass work within the duration that they were allowed to keep the park and pathway closed.

I missed something-is there going to be two separate tracks at the Deland station? I mean, there’s supposed to be several miles of double track coming up to this station but the new platform looks like it’s going to be a single track through the station and the wye to the immediate south, as well as the spur just to the north of Deland. Am I wrong or am I missing something?

Yes there will be a second track added. The new platform will be an island.

Highly doubtful as none of Sunrail's stations do but they also aren't really needed.

@louislamonte334 You might be thinking of the ex-SAL Petersburg, VA to Henderson, NC main, about 90+ miles, that is being rebuilt primarily for passenger service.
