Sunrise At Angel's Gate | New work for Concert Band by Philip Sparke

Off the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is the great rock structure known as Angel’s Gate. Imagine the dawn of a new day, as the rising sun slowly reveals the magnificent canyon below. Written for The U.S. Army Field Band, this is Phillip Sparke’s “Sunrise at Angel’s Gate.”
Performed live in Flagstaff, AZ in October of 2019.

This music would be perfect to wake to, especially if timed with the sunrise. It starts off gently, and builds up. AT 4:44, that's the part where the person who has been awakened by this magnificent music is taking a brisk shower and getting ready to start their day!

_Have you ever gone to the refrigerator at 1AM, thinking you’re hungry when all you needed was something relaxing🥱and pleasant to focus on? Well, I was thinking about a slice of double-crust Apple Pie…thank you for saving me about 400 calories🤗…okay, 800 with that scoop of vanilla ice cream that would have found its way in the bowl. What a great piece of music! I played this some years ago with a band here in Germany…. And although I‘ve never been at the Angels Gate I can imagine how a sunrise looks there…. But after playing it you need some extra oxygen (at least with contrabass clarinet)
