The SanLorenzo has something that is difficult to describe: Italianita. This is reflected in the design, the colors, the details. So it's really a matter of taste, because both are first-class yachts.

The logical reason for the galley being on the starboard side in the Sl is the A-symmetric layout. In order to do provisioning you would need a side access door to the galley. I guess it is from this point of view the galley is starboard side. Not a real hard choice. Hands-down would be the SL

Fun comparison! The Sanlorenzo edges it out for me, personally; that forward facing glass in the master stateroom is a really nice feature.
@grondhero7 ай бұрын
Of the two, I would take the Sanlorenzo 120A - the guest cabins _and_ crew cabins seem more spacious. (But probably just for charter, though.) Personally, if I were able to afford a luxury yacht, I wouldn't go for fiberglass composite, despite its advantages of weight and price. I've seen how quickly fiberglass catches on fire, especially compared to aluminum and steel. And I subscribe to another channel that will occasionally show yachts catching on fire (usually in marinas) and the fiberglass ones are always destroyed and always toxic. In my dream world, if I can afford a luxury yacht, then I can afford Lurssen or Amels. 😉

The one side deck will make a big difference in the GT. The reason for a port galley is a tradition for traditional sailing ships heaving to in a storm they would be on starboard tack so have right of way over ships on port tack.

David that’s a really great comparison. I am a captain on a Sunseeker 116, having heard quite a bit about the new 120 I think the gt may not be correct. The gt of the 116 is 243, with the length increase I would think the 120 would be closer to the gt of the San Lorenzo. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Very difficult to decide, but I think the Sanlorenzo edges it, the areas that make the difference for me are: beach club better concept, slightly larger interior, slightly more range and more attractive price, this said the final decision would be made after touring round both and seeing the "look and feel". Good job David and team.

It's very hard to figure out which of the two I would choose. They both give and take differently in numerous areas making each ship unique. I don't see a clear advantage of one over the other. Although, I would want an engine upgrade for the Sunseeker.

Greed
@lamarb25137 ай бұрын
It's not often greed. You have to take into account things like where the shipyard is, that can play into how much it cost for labor. You also have to take materials on board into account. The different wood in the Cabinetry alone can make a big difference in price.
@clifbradley7 ай бұрын
Sunsseker is very well put together in terms of materials used and quality. A 20 year old Sunseeker will retain more of it's value than a 20 year old Sanlorenzo. Also, the crew areas on a Sanlorenzo aren't the greatest so you aren't going to attract top crew to your yacht and in turn you are going to get decent crew but maybe not the best and that will make bot only you and your guests suffer but the yacht as well. The other issue is that Sunseeker has a very robust network of dealers, suppliers and technicians on hand 24 hours a day. So if an issue pops up at 3 a.m., Sunseeker will be available and working on the issue to get it resolved. If that means you are somewhere in the waters off nowhere in Thailand, they will get the part or unit you need from wherever it is, get a technician or mechanic who can install it and have that person and part on a plane as soon as possible and then if they have to rent a longboat powered by a Chevy 352 longblock to get it out there, they'll do that and pay for all of it. You aren't getting that with Sanlorenzo. Also if you look at the secondhand market for Sunseeker vs Sanlorenzo, you'll easily see that Sunseekers sell for mkre money. And companies like Setag, specialize in refurbishment of high end yachts like Princess, Fairline, Sunseeker and Pearl. Sanlorenzo they will charge more money for because the way Sanlorenzo applies their veneers and coverings, it makes the core material underneath destroyed if the top veneer or covering is removed. They glue everything on directly to the boards underneath whereas most companies put a padding layer for sound deadening underneath that covering. I worked on a Sanlorenzo as a deckhand. They are pretty inside and the guest areas are great. Crew areas though are an afterthought.

Contrary to the comments at 7:10, am I mistaken in thinking the plan shows there is actually flybridge access to the foredeck on the SL next to the helm station? Sounds crazy that you'd have to go down a deck and then up again to access the foredeck from the fb.
@marcelwin69417 ай бұрын
You beat me ro it. I agree, according to the layout pkan, there is access from the flybridge directly to the foredeck, with the door being on portside right next to the helm.

I enjoyed this comparison. I was expecting the Sunseeker to have a higher GT as a payoff for the deeper draft and appearance of having a fuller superstructure forward, but Sanlorenzo snatches the sleeker design and space aboard award.

If you want customization, SL winds hands down. Price difference, only comes because in Viareggio and Spezia supply chain to build yachts from the 20 to the 100 meters is on tap and easy. In Poole and with Brexit, you might as well build in Antartica (might come cheaper).

Having been crew on a Sanlorenzo, but never a Sunseeker, I can tell you that the adage of 'happy crew happy yacht' aren't very true on a Sanlorenzo. The crew areas are small amd sometimes the beds have unusual curves in the bed. I never took another contract on another Sanlorenzo after that one short season. So your crew probably won't be the happiest on a Sanlorenzo.

Counting the nickels and dimes it‘s gonna be … none of them :-) Seriously: Many thx for a again very infomative video! In this case definetively go for SL as it appears to have much more crew space and some other things a little better done than sunseeker. Personally I‘d prefer sth like a Numarine 37XP to be able to cross the pond, should be in same price range than the sunseeker. Keep up the videos, einjoy them very much, thanks a lot!

The Sunseeker wins it for me, but it’s a heart over head decision. The San Lorenzo seems to offer more for the money, but if you can afford one, you could probably afford the other, and my money would go to Sunseeker. I just think it’s more stylish just about everywhere, and I guess my choice is influenced by a bit of patriotism too. 🇬🇧 Both lovely yachts though.

Sunseeker in no way holds a candle to Sanlorenzo... San Lorenzo has to be one of the most forward boat makers right now, their attention to detail and layout of their super yachts is unrivaled... There are other boats that are catching up to them. But when it comes to bespoke interior design, there is no one executing like them. This is not in any way to say sunseeker is not of utterly fantastic shipbuilding... they are indeed. But a Sanlorenzo yacht it's just something that is just designed from the hull to perform and drop jaws at the same time.
