Elijah was the wisest, more sensible one of the siblings, and Hope trusted him with her life & was an encouragement to her. If he had chosen to stay alive…there’s a strong possibility that Hope would come to her senses & realize that she’s not alone. Though I’ll also say that being a Tribrid & having her humanity off came with its plus side. Because even though she won’t admit it, deep down (despite her being a jerk to all her friends) she’s doing what she’s doing to protect everyone…her own way…just like HER DAD did.

I feel like a lot of people forget the reality of the Originals walking the earth for over a thousand years. Elijah has lived so much longer and experienced more than we could ever comprehend. He lost the love of his life, his brother is dying, his mortal sister is getting married while his other sister is planning on living out the rest of her life with Marcel as a mortal very soon and his brother who will also be taking the cure is off and married to the love of his life not really wanting too much to do with them. Hope is taken care of and pretty openly hated Elijah, everyone had found their place, what was left for him? When you’ve lived that long, you have the right to claim the end when you’re ready; he didn’t want to start over again after everything he’s been through. So he chose to accompany his brother to he next world, where hopefully the women they loved were waiting for them. I honestly can’t understand how people don’t see the poetry of that.

I think the story line for Elijah was he only lived for Klaus to restore whatever humanity he had left and he felt like he owed him that and since Klaus had to die, maybe Elijah felt like he had nothing else to live for. Their brother bond brought me to tears. To have so much devotion for one another, it was beautiful. Elijah was the only one to maintain Klaus…as best as he could lol. I only wished to see Elijah and Hayley dancing in peace. That would of been a great ending.
