If you love a beautiful movie, like the scenes and the colors, a solid story line, strong female characters, and almost 99 percent practical effects,and a male and female friendship that doesn't get pushed into a romance. Mad Max Fury Road, is more than a car movie and it's genuinely.... Perfect.

I loved Chris Evans character in this movie. At first I was like "oh no hes the asshole" and thought he would be the bad guy. But he was just the very blunt realistic person and appreciated what he brought to the team. The courage of some of the people in this movie really got to me >_

I’m convinced that marvel saw this film and How Evans was so incredibly different here than anything else he had done until this and his conviction to the mission and saving home. That they wanted him to play Captain America, the man who would do whatever it takes, to save home. Love this film.

I'm smiling when reading this. I think when I hear Chris Evans, I always portray him playing mediocre roles for Rom Coms but he grew so well in the acting industry. I recall Cellular and he did great there. But here comes Sunshine and I totally got a crush on him since then, lol. The guy could act so properly when given the right role.

@Christian England Irrationality. For 2/3s of the movie, it's just a straight-up Sci Fi flick. For the final third, it's a horror movie, with a gruesomely disfigured serial killer, trying to kill the crew, "because he feels it's his destiny" (or something equally nonsensical). It's just cognitive dissonance, is what it is. Like two completely different flicks mashed together into one film. For a lot of people, they can't accept this. Even though the clues of what might eventually become the problem are sprinkled throughout the first two acts of the film. You can even see one of the original cast starting to go "sun crazy," but he dies well before that becomes an issue.

@Christian England Like I said, it's cognitive dissonance. What that basically is, is a phenomenon whereby your expectations are more or less brought to a certain conclusion, before the end of a film. What that does is create an "expectation" of how the film will end. Of course, that doesn't spoil the ending, there's still a dozen different ways to end the movie based upon the overall expectation of that ending. But that's not the point. What the third act of this film does is completely throw out the baby with the bathwater. Everything that happened, up until the third act, is now rendered meaningless, by a sudden reversal of the plot. Now, it's about the "crazy nutcase" trying to foil the mission. And not about simply trying to get to the Sun, to restart it, so humanity doesn't freeze to death. What it is, is basically foiling the first two-thirds of the movie, and telling the audience that was all meaningless. And it was. Really, it was just another space flick, until the third act started. But people liked the film as it was. Turning the expectation onto its' head angers most people, because most people don't like surprises, unless that surprise still lines up with their expectations. Many people who grew to like the first two-thirds of the film were offended. If you still liked the film, in spite of the cognitive dissonance, then you are a rare person. You're like me, who also didn't mind the twist, because I frankly like twists. But not nearly everybody is like you and I. A lot of people don't like having their expectations thrown out the window by a film. It offends them, in a weird sort of way. That's the simplest way I could explain things. I hope it helps. The only thing that matters, in the end, is that you like it. If the movie is perfect to you, then it is perfect. It's really that simple.

@Christian England By "perfect," I really just meant that you liked it. There's no such thing as a technically perfect film. Only a bunch of very well liked films, by mass audiences. That's really what I meant. Any movie that I thoroughly enjoy, to me, is perfect. Even if that's not strictly what "perfect" means. It's perfect to me, in that I wouldn't want the film any other way.

@@shindari Cognitive Dissonance is when you hold conflicting beliefs about a thing at the same time. The people who dislike the third act of the film because it betrays the tone and genre of the rest of the film may have an ambivalence about the film by the time the credits roll, but they're not experiencing cognitive dissonance. They don't believe that it's both the best film and a trash fire at the same time. They think that it's a very solid film with a very big flaw that, for some people, may ruin the whole for them. For me, I don't mind the purposeful blending of genre in film, and for the most part I'm fine with people screwing with genre rules in general. I think there's a good opportunity for the subversion of expectation in those situations. But this film feels more like they couldn't find a good way to transition between the second and third act. I like aspects of the ideas, I like that they seeded the sun madness angle, I like the biblical themes and apocalyptic nihilism of the villain, but the slasher flick vibe it brought was just completely unwelcome to me. It's like someone made a rich velvety chocolate cake and when I bit into it there was a thick layer of mustard. I like chocolate cake. I like mustard. I do not want secret mustard in my chocolate cake. All that being said, I think the strengths of the first two thirds and the final moments do completely outshine (no pun intended) what I don't like about the film and I continue to recommend it to people.

I never understood why people dislike "the 3rd act" so much. I guess they are too upset with their precious Mace getting killed but I thought he was the biggest ass on the crew. He was so rude and angry to everyone all the time and fond of arguing and confronting people over the smallest things. Chris Evans was the weak link in this movie. Yes he could engineer shit and fix the ship in the process after it blacked out bravo for that but that doesn't make him a good person here. Searle, Cassie, Kaneda, Harvey, Capa and Pinbacker were all so much more interesting and deep characters. I'm glad movies like this exist one of the best sci-fi and thriller ever.

There's a progression in this film that represents the psychological state of the crew as it deteriorates. Things become increasingly dream-like. Plus the relativistic effects of accelerating into the gravity well of the Sun. Human minds are not exactly used to that kind of environment. I have to say, I never found this film depressing. They have the vote about killing the guy, but in reality there was only ever one choice. Over and over (with a couple exceptions) you see the crew willing to do whatever has to be done for the good of Earth and humanity.

they mention earlier in the film that they do not understand the physics in relation to proximity of the sun. Everything just starts falling apart into random chaos. That is why the third act goes off the rails, especially visually. They are no longer interacting with time and space in the same way they were when the were further from the sun.

I adore this movie! It's been in my top 10 movies for years. The 3rd act divides opinions but I personally love it. It's very bold and so unexpected but there was a focus on the sun and the godlike status it had in some of the crew members' minds from the very beginning. (so it truly isn't out of nowhere) Pinbacker is just the extreme of it. The horror elements in the last act feel well fitting. With a different kind of 3rd act, I believe it would be just very ordinary story that would be lost in a collection of other average scifi films. The ending makes it stand out and makes me love the film. PS. Adagio in D minor is incredible!!

I look at the ending as everyone was saved. I went to the cinema to watch this film because it reunited the director, writer and lead actor from 28 Days Later. Mix in some acting royalty; Michelle Yeoh, Hiroyuki Sanada and Chris Evans' best performance. It's a brilliant film and I see nothing wrong with any of the acts.

The beauty of this movie is that it displays idealism. Putting the noble cause before your own needs, wants, even lives. It's a crusade and everyone aboard knew that the mission exceeded everything else. That level of nobility and self sacrifice makes you almost want to believe in human nature again. The third act kind of falls apart, as it's more about religion and faith than sci-fi at that point, and religion tends to make entertainment collapse

4:32 Really good observation, many reactors miss that Harvey isn't as enthralled by Mercury as everyone else. I saw an interview a few years ago where the actors discussed their process for this movie. They were all given background for their characters, things that aren't really mentioned in the movie but that they were supposed to keep in mind as far as their performances went. Part of Harvey's packet was that he is extremely homesick and he's feeling weighed down by the mission when we are introduced to the characters. I think the actor did a really good job of portraying that on screen without it having to be said.

Thank you. Everyone is yapping on about Chris. He's a good action hero, but he doesn't have a lot of potential for depth with his incredible hunk looks. Cillian, though... Now there's an expressive face. And he knows how to use it. From 28 Days Later, through Sunrise, the Batman movies, and Inception, to... Whatever he is still going to create in the future... he makes characters you don't just see, but feel.

The soundtrack release was held up for over a year with lawyers trying to resolve unspecified legal issues.[3] However, on 10 September 2008, Underworld announced that the soundtrack was to be released in digital format shortly.[4] On 25 November 2008 the soundtrack was finally released exclusively through the iTunes Store. On 14 February 2009 the album was re-released on iTunes in DRM-free iTunes Plus format.[1] A remastered version of "Adagio in D Minor" was released by John Murphy in 2012. Adagio in D Minor was made for Sunshine, like Capa Meets the Sun. That song has stuck with me forever, but Danny Boyle movies always impress souls upon my soul. TIDBIT: writing this movie really influenced Alex Garland, he's confessed so. Contemplating the end of existence, you can see its handprint on his subsequent work.

For me, personally, I'm a fan of angsty teen films such as Lady Bird, The Edge of Seventeen, Eighth Grade and so on...I also do kind of like drama films as well, but it has to be well-written and developed for me to actually like it. This film review is going great already. Never seen this movie before. Keep doing great content :)

One of my favorite sci-fi/space movies, easily. Fantastic cast, music, visuals. Wanted to recommend it when I saw your Snowpiercer reaction, lord behold this was already up. The third act is...different, but there is a bit of foreshadowing, so for me it didn't come totally out of left field and no way does it ruin the film. I'm just glad to see it getting some love and attention.

I love this movie. I rewatch it frequently. I guess sci-fi is my favorite genre, but it’s hard to find good sci-fi films like this. Because of that, horror is probably my most watched genre because there is an abundance of films to choose from. I watch reactions for those two the most.

The reason "Adagio in D Minor" sounded familiar is because it's been remixed and reused by its composer, John Murphy, to various levels in other places, most notably in the form of "Strobe" in Kick-Ass, but also in various trailers and TV shows. This was its first iteration and original use though.

I remember I bought this out of shear impulse a couple of years after it came out, and holy crap! This turned out to be one of my favorite, top ten, sci-fi dramas of all time. I even nerded out over the DVD extras because the movie just blew my mind. Wait... speaking of top ten sci-fi films... have you ever seen Blade Runner: The Final Cut? That's definitely a two for one. The Documentary on the dual-disc collection (I think it may be 3 discs, can't remember), Dangerous Days, really does a deep dive into the making of the film and spans nearly 30 years of how it came to become The Final Cut. You could literally make 4 commentary or review videos just off of those discs.

I’ve loved this movie and like your brother I try to get others to watch it. Definitely and underrated and overlooked movie. It’s reminiscent of Europa Report and Event Horizon to me.

Great Movie! So I’m pretty sure the reason you recognize that awesome song “Adagio in D Minor” by John Murphy, is that the same basic melody of it is used in like 5000 movies. I’m a crazy LOTR guy so I first recognized it right after Gandalf falls from the Bridge of Khazad Dûm, but now I hear it in SO many films. Seriously, since you have an ear for film scores, now that you’ve heard it your going to recognize it in like 50% of the sad/emotional scenes you watch. Its like the Wilhelm Scream for film composers 😆.

My 10th grade teacher had a unit devoted to space and the future of space travel. Among reading, annotating, and writing a bunch of essays about various scientific articles we read, Sunshine and The Event Horizon were some movies she managed to incorporate into the lessons for the purpose of the unit. This movie was sad 😢

I don't know if its been mentioned, but at the end when Cillian is in the suit trying to get up, Danny Boyle was stepping on him. Cillian's frustration was genuine. Also the song? You might recognize it from some X-Men related trailers, or it was in Kick Ass. One of my favorite instrumentals ever.

This film kept me on a good edge. The 3rd act was alright but I absolutely love the poetic of the ending of the film when Kappa is embraced by the explosion in his moment of death. I do love this movie.

My favorite Danny Boyle film, but my Blu-ray won't play on my PS3/PS4, apparently there were issues with original pressings of the disc. Brilliant film, so underseen.

A good hidden gem is The Night Eats the World. Released in 2018, it is definitely worth a watch.
