The old Twin Sunshine Skyway Bridge, the old one this replaced in 1987, was intimidating. It was a huge metal monster, very high. This new one has a much more gradual rise; the old one had a steep rise and it seemed scary ; it was like you were climbing a mountain. When I was a teenager my dad and I would ride across it in his '68 VW Beetle to go visit my grandmother in Sarasota. It was fun but frightening.

I'm glad you said that because that's what I remembered when I was a kid... and looking at these videos started making me feel like it was all in my head. I have a photographic memory and I can see in my mind how steep it was. We moved to another state in 1986... so I never really experienced the new one.

@@JadedMuse2 The nightmare people dreamed about with that scary tall bridge came TRUE in 1980. A container ship hit the bridge causing a Greyhound bus, of all things, and some cars to tumble off the top and take a terrifying fall way down into the bay.. 43 people were killed. It was ghastly. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time! Sheesh. Crossing the bridge, those poor people had no idea they were about to perish. But it's all ancient history now, mostly forgotten.

I remember back in 1980, that bridge was hit by a barge. I was 14 years old😢

That was the old bridge, replaced by this one, the replacement completed in 1987. Anyway, six cars, a truck and Greyhound bus fell 150 feet into the water below after the barge hit and part of the bridge collapsed. It was ghastly. Can you imagine being a passenger on that bus?? Geez! What bad luck, talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time!

crazy to think people jump from there but I do not judge. so much goes on within the mind when everything on the outside of ones life starts to fall apart and crumbles to pieces beyond repair

6 years ago I was at rock bottom..Nowhere to turn..Nobody to talk to..I jumped and survived.. thankfully a guy in his boat picked me outta the water in two minutes and rushed me to the ft desoto boat ramp where ems was waiting.. those were some dark days of my life.. Its true what they say..When I jumped I said to myself "WTF ARE YOU DOING"..

G*d forbid they ever get a strange weather event like Texas has received a few times. Videos of people going down that bridge could be crazy.

Strange weather event? This bridge experiences heavy thunderstorms, tropical storms, and hurricanes.
