This was in 1986; racquet technology was well on its way with graphite, Kevlar, etc and Jimbo is STILL with that metal badminton racquet.

He took a graphite racket during that year. I saw him play in 1987 After many year and he used that graphite racket.

In 84 he was using graphite. Temporarily went back to the T-200, I think it was called. Sounds like the terminator. Your description suits and it looks so outdated even back then.

T2000 a racquet only Connors could love. The Wilson Pro Staff was developed for him in 1984, but he never favored it and returned to the T2000 in 1985. Later on, he started playing with Slazenger graphite frames ('87 or so)@@mrbungle7586

He use that racket because he loved it so much. They weren’t even paying him as an endorsement to use the racket. Because they knew how much she loved it.

This was an exhibition tournament - NOT an ATP tournament. Wilander and Connors played against each other 5 a total of times in ATP tournament matches - and Wilander won all 5.

This match was an exhibition. In regular tour matches, Connors never actually beat Wilander.

Actually, this was a tournament. It wasn’t an official ATP event at the time, but it became one later. Wilander beat Lendl in the semis.

I recall this one. JC filled in the slot after McEnroe withdrew just before it held. This carpet surface was very fast, giving JC an edge over Wilander.

I would argue his biggest weakness was his low forehand, especially near below his knees.

He barely missed his slice backhand in the final. He hit that shot to perfection.

Connors strugle a lot with Wlander having a negative record against him of 0-5. I dont know if he was able to beat him in some unofficial match!!

Sampras Lendl McEnroe n Connors played 4 decades with outdated frames whose heads size (roughly 80/85 sq in) and weight (about up to 350 g) would b un4given 4 modern champs. So then although those guys ain't no racquets advanced tech help they've been able 2 b dominant in their own era Connors 70's Lendl/ McEnroe 80's n Sampras 90's.

Wilander was never a exibition player. His focus and motivation was not there.😉🎾🎾🎾

@@Nocturnbandofficial Its actually WIlanders own words in his biography, he had trouble with focus in exhibitions, Connors always tried his best, I think he never tanked a match. Beating Lendl was a fun detail though, perhaps he disliked him so much he tried harder? In any case WIlander changed racket in 86 and for a while had trouble controlling the ball. He did badly in 86 GS compared to 85 and 87/88. Connors old racket was of course a handicap for him.
