I love your adventures so much man, you inspired me to go on some distance skating trips! I skated a tiny 270 km over two trips, one of which I came back from less than a week ago. I don't have interesting video equipment though so I'll leave the amazing trip videos to you! These trips really made me discover more about the world and about myself and are really unique experiences, so thank you so much for being so inspirational!

Heya! You are awesome Adam! Thanks for the inspiration! May i ask, How did you manage border crossings? Any things you wished you knew before?
@whoisadam6 жыл бұрын
Border crossings weren't really a thing you just paddled on through. Though when you got to Serbia the 1st major town you came to, I forget the name you had to check in and pay some money to use the waterway... It was kind of a hassle, cost about hmmm $60.

Great stuff, i want to kayak the Danube in the future. Did you have to show passport at any of the borders? And how many times did you have to cross over land? Thanks a lot
@whoisadam6 жыл бұрын
No passport expect for Serbia you have to show yours and pay a fee to use the river. You pay this fee at the 1st town you come to, its kind of a hassle, if you arrive on the weekend you have to wait until the weekday to get it. It was around 50 Euros. Crossing over land? You got to cross over land a lot in Austria many dam portages though if your in a kayak some of the dams have Kayak slides. This is a great site with info,www.tour-international-danubien.org/index_E.php

Man, that river looks awesome, the cities along it and the countries, especially if you finish it; and I forgot how rivers always have restaurants! :D And the comfort of that kind of tent does seem worth the added weight and time compared to a biwack. Did you look up dangerous animals beforehand? Because I did on my trip, so when I got woken up by a wild boar in the middle of the night alone in a forest! I knew to just stand up and make it notice/smell me (and hope it wasn't after my food / I was'nt between a mother and her kids), Also, did you just drink filtered river water the whole trip? Even if it gets rid of bacteria, is that fine?
@testmonsterification7 жыл бұрын
Yeah the 1P tent was a nice change from my NEMO bivy, I liked the extra room, and it wasn't too much heavier. I didn't do too much research on dangerous animals. Yeah the bore scared me alright and I did have a cooler of food chilling by my tent. I filtered water I would say half the time with the Sawyer mini filter worked great and I didn't get sick. The other half of the time I would fill water up at a restaurant while I ate dinner.
@jacobsanchez69247 жыл бұрын
Cool stuff man! Been following your work for a while way back from your Adam squared days. Any lessons learned or things that you might try differently next time around, or do you feel that you had enough preparation and the right gear for this trip?
@whoisadam7 жыл бұрын
I would no change too much, perhaps bring less bungees, invest in some seriously good sunscreen. I got to get better at being efficient with avoiding transaction fees, I need to do a better job and find a travelers credit card you can use without a foreign transaction fee or without any charges when withdrawing money. Every time I would withdrawal money from ATM, I would get a $5 fee. So to avoid racking up fees I would withdrawal a large amount at a time, and I didn't plan well and have way to many Euros left over. Did pretty good with the other currencies. Just some small detail stuff but nice to get it all wired, I wasted say $35 in fees. I though was smart and got a Euro SIM card that covered me pretty much the whole trip, way better option than trying to make my Verizon service work over there. Going to look into a good solar power charger for next trip.
