Look at the smile on your face. Absolutely us non racers should be able to enjoy the speed and all the pluses associated with a great race board. I have just ordered my first rigid board and it is a race board, I am so sick and tired of going paddling for training/workouts and having the wind pick up, making paddling very unenjoyable fighting it. I still believe in owning a quality inflatable for ease of travel and storage, but sometimes, you just have to open it up and get the most out of the time you have while on the water. That grin you have tells me all I need to know.

I will be getting my first rigid board and it’s a race board too. But I’m quite worried about the small bungee system as I plan to use it for touring as well

@@danneh8777 Check out 'SUP with Scott' here on KZbin, he does some insane touring on his SIC Atlantis. The board I am getting is slightly used and the gal I am buying it from put a decent sized bungee system on it near the back. I have two touring inflatables, so if I wanted to haul gear, I would most likely use them and go with a friend. I think the best info I have seen and who gives the most info on what you are talking about is SUP with Scott.

Great to hear you are getting a new board! You'll enjoy paddling much more in those conditions. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Beau

As @richardjohnson4696 says, check out SUP With Scott and especially this video as you can add modifications to your new board: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZmWiJ2in5imqJI Thanks, Beau

@@SUPboardermag thank you! I know about bungee rigging but I don’t want to use those that uses glue or adhesive don’t want to damage the board paint if I were to try and remove them as I wouldn’t know one day if I’m going to sell my racing board. Saw someone said about using suction cup I don’t think it’s strong enough but might give it a try

Not all composite race boards come without bungees. Even if it’s just a small bungee system like on the SIC RS you can still get 20l dry bag under that. Plenty enough for day touring. Suction D rings can be added anywhere on the board for a custom bungee set up if you want to multi day tour. Gear storage can be achieved easily. That wouldn’t put me off touring with a race board.

Thanks for this I’ve been looking everywhere not many people use race board for touring.. I’m getting sic rs 14x26 race board soon but mostly will be using it for touring. Does suction D rings stick strong enough tho?

I'd say the most important point is one that you nearly got with the comment 'You'll be so much faster than all your mates'. This is it. When you are on a hard board and you are with a group on ISUPs you aren't alongside them chatting, your off ahead, then turning around every few minutes to go back to where they are. I train and race on hard raceboards and am not in it for the social aspects, but a lot of people I go past on my local river in large groups on ISUPS are, and they are in it for the chatting, the scenery the relaxation etc. Sure, I'm going twice the speed they are, but an increasingly more valid question for me would be who's had the better day out? If there's a few of you all on hard raceboards, that would be the win/ win, as you keep both the social aspect and the satisfaction of feeling like you're actually covering some ground.

Jake Frith thanks Jake. Yeah it’s always better to stick together. The other side of that is that you can be going the same speed but put in a lot less effort. Win win then.

I own both isup and a race board. There are lots of convience downsides for sure but of you have room, and can transport a hard board its IMHO the most enjoyable non surf sup experience by far. The speed, effecieny, bump catching, downwinding and fun you can have on allround race board is tops. As for stability you get used to it and I find the Allstar 14x26 as stable as my 12'6 by 31 iSUP and in rougher conditions I find it more stable because it can punch through chop and maintain more speed. I do wish all raceboards over 24" or in general had at least one small bungie/tie down area for a dry bag and water bottle etc. Cost wise for Starboard their lower cost cinstruction is awesome or look for a good used board and save a ton.

“Should…?” Of course - go for it! However, before investing your money (maybe a lot), invest your time - in a better paddle stroke…
