I picked up a Chinon XL550 camera without the battery tray. I rigged it with 4 AA batteries and duct tape to make sure it worked, and it seems to be working perfectly. I just ordered a tray like the one you have. Great minds think alike! When it does arrive I'll use some instamorph to make a filler so the new tray sits in the battery compartment solidly. I was thinking about using the instamorph to just make the new tray but that would be a pretty big job with lots of little things to do. The amazon tray is quick and doesn't require much thinking from me, and that is always a good thing! The bad part is the focusing ring rubber and the eyepiece rubber are a tar like good. I'll have about 3 hours in it just to get every trace of that crap off the camera and a good cleaning. Should be worth it for that camera, it has a bunch of great features on it. I just hope it lasts........

Dear, BluYote Photo I have a Kodak zoom 8 automatic camera and it has all the parts it just needs to be reassembled because I took it a part a couple years ago and never figured out how to put it back together. I'm super interested in fixing it or having it fixed. It's a great decoration I would just like to do more with it. I was hoping you would be able to, if you have the time, maybe do a video on fixing one, or possible being able to give me a contact for someone you know that might be interested in fixing one. Thanks for your time. Gabe

I repair supers, most the Canons fro the 70's and early 80's. The older cameras need the micro battery for the auto and manual exposure to work. The auto zooms are slow if one speed is offered. Some offer slow and fast zooms. You are actually lucky to have got that far, half of these do not get that far in the process, I have many tutorials on repair but they are all Canon. They are all pretty much the same though.

So, after complaining about never finding any good super 8 cameras while thrifting, I found one while working away from home, in a thrift store near my hotel. Ironically it is almost the same camera as yours except it is a Yashica Super 50N. Anatomically it is the same except the controls and cosmetics are different in style. I suspect that Yashica made this Argus Cosina camera that is yours. Mine has corroded battery compartment but the battery box is intact and is the same as the one you bought. Its a nice camera, it has good weight and a very nice smooth lens. I won't get to working on it till I get home. Fingers crossed.

I just got the same camera today and the mercury battery holder is pretty much pristine (imo) but the i got the 4 battery holder compartment and it was all corroded. The battery holder seems pretty much fine besides some of the corrosion it has, and inside the handle on the redish/orangeish connector thing its all corroded, yours looks 100% compared to mine which is like 40%

Any tips on how to fix/ clean the corrosion?

Nice video. I have a question. I got a Yeshica Super-50 which is technically identical to your camera. But the view finder works very slow (the diaphargm values). I see in your movie that the numbers in the left corner changes normally. In my camera it looks like it stuck and it moves slowly, it takes minutes before it goes from 22 to 2.8. In the meanwhile I opened the camera to see whats happing. If I switch to manual and turn the button, it goes easy to 22, but back to 2.8 nothing happens. If I press (very) gently this blade (I suppose it's the diaphragm of the camera) back, the diaphragma value in the upper left corner goes also back to 2.8. It looks like the coil where the diaphragm is connected to doesn't get electricity in one of the coils to bring the diaphragm back. My question is: how do I disasemble the camera so I can take out this part (and in the best case it's a losen wire what has to reconnect), or where can I find a new sparepart, or does that not exist anymore, due to the camera's age? I hope you have some advise for me :o) . Thanks for sharing this video

The button battery is only for the light meter. You need to put penlight batteries in the handle of the camera to make the film transport work.

What is the button battery called?
@MORCOPOLO08173 жыл бұрын
@@coldplayvideoedits4965 Back in the day they used mercury batteries but because of enviornmental reasons they are no longer available (But Dentists will still put mercury amalgam fillings in people's mouths-go figure!) It is a button battery. You can still get button batteries but they will not be compatible with that light meter in that they will give a false exposure reading. There are some suppliers that offer adapters for these batteries so that they will give correct exposure readings. You can also get Zinc air batteries but those things are lousy and don't last very long. The best option is find one of the professional Super 8 camera repair guys and have them do a conversion so that the light meter will run off of the same power source as the camera motor.

I had a camera like that once, the battery had exploded, and glued itself to the compartment. Also mercury, it is highly toxic. I would not be touching that with your bare hands. Deoxit is good for cleaning as it won't damage any of the plastic or contacts. It's non-abrasive. The coin battery is for the light meter, not the motor.... The batteries for the motor are generally AAs in a different compartment. The frame speed change is for frames per second, not feet per second. You want to set the frames per second to 24fps for modern video.

If I ever found anything good like a super 8 camera at a thrift store, I would fall on my face from shock. All I ever find is crappy cheap stereos maybe, and old toasters.

That knob is frames per second , 18fps is normal for super 8 . 24 FPS is normal speed for 16mm sound film
