I don’t understand the chiefs offence. They can have an awful game week in and week out, but when it matters most they pull it off. Mahomes is insane. If I needed a game winning drive win the game, it’s gotta be mahomes 10 time out of 10

Whats going to get lost from this game is that crazy 50 yard across his body DIME from Mahomes to Hardman in the first quarter because Pacheco ended up fumbling the next play. That throw was absolutely insane.

Didn't love Romo calling. Felt like he was trying to make everything the most important play or player ever. At one point he said, "Purdy has become one of the best QBs in the league if he isn't the best already." ...I was like "wait what?" The first field goal he also said it "wow what a HUGE kick, that deficit puts a ton of pressure on Mahomes." I was like...dude it's the first quarter still

I think my biggest takeaway from this game is it takes a village to raise the Lombardi. I probably identified at least a dozen players over the course of the game that I thought could reasonably be considered the MVP at one time or another. Here's a baker's dozen: from the 49ers, Fred Warner, Chris Conley, Jake Moody, Christian McCaffrey, Ji'Ayir Brown, and Jauan Jennings; and from the Chiefs, Harrison Butker, Chris Jones, Trent McDuffie, Mecole Hardman, Patrick Mahomes, Trey Smith, and Leo Chenal. Each team put forth a pretty complete team effort, which I think made it satisfying to watch.

Niners focus on officials' non-calls. Multiple non-calls for late hits and roughing the passer against the Niners are overlooked. If you can't beat a team, it must be the officials, or Taylor Swift that caused your team of titans to lose. Chiefs ignore all noise and focus on SB rings.

I think the 9ers bad oline was a bigger factor than anything. Missed PAT, missing blocks and losing on big run plays.

Too many false start penalties. There shouldn't be any of those types of unforced errors at this point in the season. Little things like that matter in tight games. But the missed extra point was on the kicker. It left impact on a lower than normal trajectory. The first 2 possessions in the 2nd half were especially disappointing for the 49ers - they picked Mahomes, and then did nothing with the ball.

Before it went to overtime, Tommy Townsend had a pretty great case for MVP. He had a great save and hold on a field goal, then was just booming them - including the muff where it looked like he got hit.

I think the 49ers made the right choice to take the ball first in OT. Their defense just had to endure a lengthy Chiefs drive at the end of the 4th and barely avoided giving up a TD. They were gassed! Throwing them directly back out there to start OT seemed like a surefire way to give up a TD drive. As it turns out, it didn't matter. But at the time, I thought it made perfect sense given the situation.

Any thoughts on the play before mahomes 50 yard bomb in the first quarter. Sort of looked like an illegal forward pass from pacheco to rice at the first down marker. Ruled a fumble on the field. (Also arent offensive fumbles unable to be advanced from the spot of the fumble?) Nonetheless i didn't see a punch out and only one replay was shown and tony brought it up to mike during the broadcast with no answer.

The 49ers not knowing the rules is irrelevant. It was going to be the same outcome, they got held to a field goal. You take the points. If they stop the Chiefs they win. If they hold them to a field goal, the next score wins (including a SF FG)... If the Niners go for it on 4th down and don't convert then a field goal wins for the Chiefs... Much harder to score a TD vs a FG. Analytics says take the points in that situation.

I’m a Chiefs fan but either choice has its pros and cons. Them taking the ball first allowed for them to dictate the tempo and to tire out an already gassed defense while also allowing for their own to rest up for a shot to end the game with a stop.

The main reason to take the ball first, is that they would have gotten the ball THIRD with sudden death in play at that point (next score wins). But the 49er defense could not hold the Chiefs to a field goal at most on that last drive. Bottom line, there are pros and cons to either choice. It's not like college OT.

Because the 49ers elected to receive they deserve to lose because the chiefs were not about to tie the game and allow the 49ers the opportunity to win with a field goal so his strategy was faulty about allowing the chiefs to tie so they would have the ball because the were not going to settle for a field goal anyway so obviously they would have continued to keep going for it on first down to end the game.

Purdy outplayed Mahomes, Mahomes had a great system in place 2nd half. Cheifs DC is mvp.

I agree and disagree. Purdy outplayed Mahomes in the first half. Down the stretch, Mahomes outplayed Purdy. On crucial downs, they blitzed Purdy and he didn't have an answer. The 49ers were scared to do that to Mahomes because on the rare occasions that they tried it, he burned them. That's likely why Shanahan called the timeout on 3rd down late in there game when his defense was on the field. He didn't like the look of his defense and knew Mahomes was going to burn them if they tried to come after him again. Let's also not forget that Purdy has a vastly deeper and more diverse set of weapons. He also has a vastly better left tackle. Despite that, in crunch time, it was Mahomes who was the better QB yet again. As he almost always is. When Mahomes had weapons like that, he threw 50 TDs. He also erased 20 point deficits in playoff games. Purdy is a nicer player and the moment definitely wasn't too big for him. He easily could have won this game. But he didn't because down the stretch, the Chiefs defense found answers. On the inverse, the 49ers defense was increasingly running out of answers once Mahomes and Andy Reid started to gain traction.

Purdy ran their first half script and they still only eked out a measly 10 points and as soon as it was time for the QB to step up in the second half after adjustments he folded while Mahomes excelled. He didn’t out play him at all.

Garrett was better than Watt this year. It is not an insult to be the second best player in the league in any given year.
